Me too, and basically the same scenario. One morning I pulled a wheelie taking off from a stoplight and a cop was coming the other way.
He was really cool about it. His lights came on immediately and he started pulling into the center lane with dust flying everywhere. I think he was just being dramatic to scare me.
"Oh boy am I ever boned!" I said to myself. But I was wrong. Everything was going to be ok.
He didn't seem very upset about it, even though he thought it was a good idea to pull me over and talk to me anyway. He only chased me for about two miles and down a couple of streets and into a car dealership parking lot before he eventually turned around and decided to let me go after not finding me after I went 100mph down the last street and hid behind a boat at the back of the parking lot.
That guy was the nicest cop I've ever met. I think all that chasing and flashing lights stuff was his way of telling me to just take it easy next time.

Running from the cops is by far the stupidest thing anyone can do. I mean if you got caught doing something you knew you weren't suppose to do. Then man up.

There is no "man up" about bending over for stupid rules that are made to assuage the fears of those who choose to remain ignorant.
Don't kill people. That's a rule. Makes sense.
Don't do a wheelie or you have to pay a $1000 reckless driving ticket, get your license suspended, have to pay another thousand to get the license reinstated, and pay thousands of dollars down the line for extra insurance from that one wheelie? That's bullshit.
A wheelie is the rough danger equivalent of kids playing baseball in the street. Sure the road is public, but if you don't have access to a ballfield, and if nobody's driving down the road at the time it's safe enough, so you can do it.
The only difference is the kids playing in the road don't get their lives ruined by the cops if they get caught. If you do a wheelie in front of a cop who's having a bad day, or he's just an asshole, you're fucked, just for having a little fun at NOBODY's expense.
There's some sort of terrifying distopic moral construct that pervades our culture that says if you have fun on a motorcycle, you're a menace to society like a killer or a rapist, when really all you are is a kid on a bike who's smiling wide behind that helmet, having a little fun. How's that for fucked up?

He has had a few other infractions in a short period of time, I think he's out of strikes. I wouldn't want to be paying his insurance bill right now

I said "You were young once too* and bam like a light flicked on, we got to the station, he uncuffed me and said "your right I forgot what it was like to just be out having a little fun.

Not to hijack this thread and turn it into a political debate about our civil rights. So it’s ok to pass on a double yellow or pull 12-6 knowing that you are putting everyone within your vicinity at risk? When your wheelie goes bad and your bike slams into my car with my kids inside or when at the exact point I’m pulling up of my drive way with my kids and you have now just past the truck via a double yellow and we are now both in no man lands. Then what?

It changes the same time you turn around to yell at your kids in the backseat and while your not paying attention you slam into another family.
Sorry its all relevent.

How is that even debatable? This is what I call "a no shitter." You don't do stupid shit, and everybody's ok. Do a wheelie by yourself. That's fine. Do a wheelie into the side of a car that's turning? Bad.
When cops (or non-riders) operate under the assumption that anybody who does something illegal on a bike is out of control and seconds from disaster, they're paranoid control freaks. When you then give those people the power to legally impugn the judgment of a skilled rider who's just having fun, it fucks up the natural order of things.
In the eyes of the law, the world stunt champion pulling a wheelie on the street is just as bad as a 15 year old kid who stole a GSXR1000 and has never ridden before, pulling a wheelie on the street. There's obviously a vast difference in actual safety there, whereas the perception of safety is identical, and that perception is what the police act upon, irrespective of the facts of the situation. That's what's stupid about our society.
I'm glad I was here to clarify.
