Default How hard to take gas tank shell off of F4i?

Had my CCT replaced under warranty today...they guy who did it did a shoddy job on putting my bike back together

The tankcover (metal shell over gas tank) has a gap between the cover and frame on the right side and the rubber cover under the shell is bunched up...I'd like to get things lined up again.

Difficult to do? Maybe naive question but have never done it before...Looks like he threw it all together without lining anything up...even the plastic thingys in front of the tank look off

Glad they pay attention to detail when putting shit back together

Anyone have a pic with their gas tank cover off(any bike? I imagine that rubber cover is on all bikes between the tank and the shell)

F4i's don't have covers, that's the tank. I'm guessing what you are talking about is either the rubber gasket between the tank and the frame or the intake scoop covers.

It's not too hard to take it all apart and straighten it up. Just remember, when you lift the tank be careful not to pinch the fuel and breather lines - it happens real easily.

Thanks for the heads up...if you look between the frame and the tank there is what looks like a rubber cover that keeps junk from getting at the stuff under the tank...it was bunched up towards the front of the bike on the right side....I wiggled a pinky in there and tried to scoot it towards the back of the bike...got it somewhat but not to what I think it should be

You are correct on the intake scoop covers I think..plastic things under each grip on the bars.....funny how the tank is ok on one side and has a gap on the other..isn't there only one position for it to be in??

Bike is also idling a little erratically since I picked it up as well...wtf did they do? Damn all they were supposed to do was change out the CCTL...wonder if something got pinched like you said

Don't mess with it and take it back to the shop. The first time I had my CCT replaced under warranty the tech didn't get the throttle bodies down all the way and my tank didn't fit properly

Now that I look at the tutorial over on CBRworld it looks like the fairing gets removed...not the tank....ok..that should make thinggs a bit easier without having to mess with the tank

Ok who has taken off the right upper fairing lol

At the risk of sounding dumb...(too late) how would I know if the throttle bodies were not down all the way and what effect on the bike would I notice? The pic I saw looks like that rubber curtain is supposed lie flat and held down a 3 points on each side...looks half assed put back together..

Maybe I'll call them tomorrow and say ummmm wtf guys but if I'm able to do it myself I would rather

Without pulling the tank and airbox, you can't tell if the throttle bodies are installed correctly. Best not screw with any of it. The shop facked it up, make them fix it. If you dick with anything, they can claim you screwed it up.

Jesus its easy as fuck. Four main bolts and then I think 4 screws to get the plastics off of it.

Why didnt you do it yourself in the first place? But why not take it apart now and try to fit it all back together just for shits and giggles. Good way to learn. I did my CCT a couple years back and it took a couple hours. wasnt what i would say as difficult but did take alot of time because of the location of it, and that was the first time I worked on my bike. Was acually kind of fun.

Good how to articles.

You can easily do the CCT mod yourself and anything else besides maybe valves with minimal tools
