Default So my dad started riding again!

Well what do ya know, after decades off of two wheels, my dad finally started riding again!

He rode alot when I was a kid. Last bike he had was a GS650G in the early 80s, when he stopped riding after a left-turning pickup truck took him out one day. He wasn't seriously injured, but it spooked him enough to quit riding "for good".

When I started riding 5 years ago, it apparently reinfected him with the bug and he'd been talking about it on and off. So when we went down to FL to visit him and my mom last week, much to my suprise I saw one of these in his garage!

It's a 2007 Yamaha Morphous. Say what you want about maxi-scooters, but IMO this thing is pretty damn cool, comfortable, very well built, practical, an excellent choice for a new or re-entry rider, and perfect for the kind of riding he does at their Florida house.

He says the only thing bad about it is it's making him itch for a bigger bike too. Gonna try to get him to take my wife's FJR for a ride this summer when they come back up north.

Nice! Riding with our dad is one of the coolest things ever. I'm glad that my dad can do it with me.

Today for example: We're both going quick when he starts to walk away from me. I downshift and pin it to keep up. Shortly thereafter we start slowing down again. Made me think: "I never thought my dad was cool enough to go out on a sportbike and blitz the back roads with me." Freakin sweet!

Thats awesome man, I wish my Dad would start riding. His last time on a bike, he apparently lost control on a Honda 250 in High School and laid 50 feet of blue jean.

I would love if my dad would want to start riding with me. He rocked the shit out of a Kawasaki H1 500 back in the day.

I just don't see him doing it because he has so much back trouble. But he has ridden my bike around the back yard and up and down our street...

There's a couple of older guys(I'm 42 and YES they are older than me!) around here that have Suzuki Burgmans. Pretty cool bikes and look very comfortable and easy to ride. I had wished my Dad would have gotten the bug to ride again, but he never did. I would have loved to go riding with him on some of the local back roads.

Yeah I think the maxiscooters are a great way for older riders who have been away from bikes for a long time to reenter. Certainly alot better than going out and getting a brand-new, 800 pound Harley like many are wont to do.

I was just amazed at how big that Morphous felt... nothing at all like a little toy like one might expect of a "scooter". The thing is 3.5" longer in wheelbase than my wife's FJR1300, fer chrissake!

It's too bad he's gonna be leaving it down in Fl... I'd like to ride with him some up here. Time to start working on him to get a bike to keep up here.

Just get him to take your ZZR round the block and make sure to tell him to open her up.

Everybody that I talk to about motorcycles says something about how them opening it up for the first time is what got them hooked.

Only when I started riding 5 years ago or so did I find out my dad had owned a motorcycle right when he came home from WW2. He never told any of his kids, did not want them to ride evidently. Thought they were too dangerous. He likes to watch me ride tho'.

My oldest has laid claim to my Hodaka Ace 100 track day bike. She wants me to put it on the road so she can learn to ride it. My other kids want scooters to run around town on.

I'm all for them learning to ride and riding responsibly, but I'm still a father and worry about their safety especially when just learning a new skill set.
As we all know learning to ride a motorcycle, any motorcycle is not a joke and can have dire consequences.
