FLORIDA:
Anti-biker bill voted into US law
Visordown.com - New law gives police power confiscate vehicles and suspend licences for 10 years
AN anti-biker bill has been voted into Florida law after State Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera took a ride-along with local police last November.
The law comes into effect on October 1st, 2008 and will allow police to confiscate a motor vehicle if the rider is caught doing more than 30mph over the limit.
There will be further penalties imposed including jail sentences of five to ten years as well as suspended motorcycle licences for ten years.
The bill was originally introduced specifically against motorcycles but an amendment was made to include all vehicles.
Yet we have people with multiple DWI's walking free. seems like just another reason to run from the cops to me.

I wish to thank all the punks that can't wait till they get away from neighborhoods and heavy traffic before they ride way above their talent level for this new bill..................yall rock!..........
Yea, perfect response to the problem if overcrowding in prisons... start throwing more people in for doing 30 over. This country is going to hell in a hand basket right quick.
Most of our motorcycles can jump 30mph in the blink of an eye, and I, for one, routinely use this ability when passing/evading to MINIMIZE the amount of time I'm near the clueless cell-phone junkies, which in turn MAXIMIZES my safety. I don't permanently blaze through traffic, but a temporary burst of speed is often required in the day to day reality of riding a motorcycle on the highway. It's a shame that basically law-abiding citizens could lose their ride, their job, and potentially their future for using what few attributes their vehicle has to keep them safe.
Maybe if this clown had spent the same amount of time in the saddle of a motorcycle as he did in the back seat of a police cruiser, he'd have a different opinion.
Glad I don't live in Florida. If I did... this would certainly motivate me to vote that shithead out of office.

some people have feelings that get hurt easily. I simply say it may be a case of sandivaginitis.....go to the doctor. It sounds like sound paper when you walk.

Lets be serious - 70 in a 40 to get away from clueless cell phone ppl is not increasing your safety.....
Whoa, hold on, let's get some seperate confirmation of this. Visordown has been notoriously unreliable. I posted a story about a DesmoRR getting bikejacked from them, that turned out to be false.
Long story short, visordown is the National Enquirer of bike news.
The first one talks about Florida traffic laws being discussed in the session, but nothing about that insane bill. The 2nd link says the bill went through, but that it applies to all vehicles, however someone's motorcycle lisence can be taken away. I'm still skeptical until I see it confirmed by more reliable sources.
perfect....now all we need is for other states to use this precedence to start their own laws....... like was said earlier...DWI gets you nothing for something more dangerous.
Jail time......sorry, but for me I now have incentive to run rather than stop....
they pretty much have it geared just to bikes....but looks like it is tiered
First offense 1000, second offense 2500 and one year suspension of license, third violation if a felony revoked license, and forfeiture of vehicle.....
But they add on that both wheels must be on the road at all times. So I wonder if they will use this as cause for pulling a wheelie at posted speed as well
