I'm so glad I live in Alabama, the anti-liberal state.
This is also the same state that voted for george bush in the 2004 election after the first 4 years of him screwing up, so...ummm...yeah alabama isn't the greatest.
The taking of property by the government isn't exactly new to our laws, and is even allowed by the Constitution.
It's only allowed by the Constitution under specific circumstances involving large scale necessary public works projects, and the owners must be fairly compensated. That's REALLY REALLY different from the cops stealing your stuff on the spot from an alleged felony, and usually not giving it back even if you never actually get charged with the crime. (This happens frequently with drug allegations already.)

Sounds like its fair to me.
THere's no need to got 120mph in a 70mph, theres no need to go 100mph in a 50mph, theres no need to go 75 mph in a 25mph.
There's no need to have a sportbike in the first place. There's no need to have more than one room to live in. Etc. It's not the Bill of Needs. The idea was that we should be free to act as we like as long as we're not actually harming anyone.
When I was in college, I used to make my trips to visit my family late at night. At 0200h, on a completely empty 4-lane freeway, with clear visibility, in a well maintained Alfa Romeo, I could safely cruise at about 110mph, and did so probably almost 100 times. Made Santa Barbara to San Diego in about 2 1/2 hours or less typically. The speed limit at the time was still the federally mandated 55mph, so I was more than 50mph over for a total of over 20,000 miles of driving. With no accidents, not even any close calls, at all. For this, according to this law they'd want to lock me up for life. That's bullshit.

"A free man must be able to endure it when his fellow men act and live otherwise than he considers proper." -- Ludwig von Mises
Just one possible scenario to consider. If I had time, I could come up with countless more:
A line of cars on a 2-lane road has backed up due to someone up ahead going slower than posted. You're 3-4 cars back, and everyone in the line is driving like morons because they have the patience of a house fly in heat.
You'd like to just chill & maintain an adequate distance to the car ahead of you, but the inbred behind you, distracted with children/radio/cell phone/Big Mac/all-of-the-above is riding your ass. What's the safest course of action?
1) Sit there and wait for the guy behind to lose focus fishing for a pickle slice that fell on the floor and ass-pack you.
2) Slowly pass the line of cars ahead doing the speed limit and pray an oncoming car doesn't appear before you finish doing so.
3) Quickly and decisively pass the cars ahead, throttle down to a reasonable speed, and enjoy having the road to yourself.
I don't know about you, but option 3 is for me. And on a GSXR750, it's not too difficult to hit 30 over passing 2-3 cars decisively. Is it right for me to lose my motorcycle forever, let alone fines & jail time, for choosing this course of action? I don't think so.
Just for reference - until starting my own business - I commuted daily, by motorcycle, for years in Phoenix and beyond. And - riding as I do - not once had an accident with another vehicle (though like all commuters, I had to avoid potential accidents on a daily basis). I also consider myself a very courteous rider... I'm not barreling through traffic, fishing through lanes, or acting up in general. I simply use speed when I must. But when I must... I don't pussy-foot around.
4. Pull off to the side of the Road and allow everyone to pass, then go on your merry way.
thats what the legal system will tell you.

But we can own machine guns, carry a firearm, and don't have a bunch of retarded laws.
doing 50mph over the speed limit is 100% intentional. There is no "accidentally" hit 120mph in a 70mph zone. If you get caught doing it 3 times in a row, then you are a complete moron and deserve to have your rights removed. Laws are put in place for reasons, to keep the public safe. Dont follow those laws, well ya get the book thrown at ya. I feel this law is completely justified, and is a direct product of all those people saying "FTP, Ill ride how I wanna ride!" Im really glad they updated this to cover more than just motorcycles.

Exactly. There is no such thing as doing 50mph+ by accident. All these haters out there stop your whining and be glad that its 50mph+ instead of 30mph+ If you want to go out and speed then be ready to pay the price.
