Hey guys....so i was reading a bike magazine and saw an article about the new bimota tesi 3d .I was wandering what you guys think about thoso bikes, and if anyone of you have riden one .I have to say that the design is amazing...why the engine on their bike has less hp than the ones on duc?
The Bimota is a small Italian company. They use a trellis frame like the Ducati and the Tesi 3D has a Duc 1079 engine. In some of their earlier bikes, they used a TLR motor
They're awesome but incredibly expensive. They make their own bikes but use other company's engines, sometimes heavily modified. The first letter in the bimota model tells you where its engine was sourced from. S for suzuki, Y for yamaha, D for ducati etc.
Yes, it's in production, and it's very cool. Bimota has been around for thirty years or so, making expensive and exquisite bikes in very small numbers. If I had a ton of money to play with, more than one Bimota would be in my garage (after the Desmosedici was obtained, anyway)
Their normal motorcycles cost around $30K...but compare that to an exotic car at $200K-$300K the motorcycle is something everyday person could buy at some point int heir life.
Bimota has been around awhile. I remember reading road tests on them back in the early 80's when they bought Suzuki 1100 motors in them. I always wanted one.
Anyone actually seen one outside of a bike show or a magazine?
There were a few of them in this dealership I used to frequent in Japan. They were mostly late 80s/early 90s models. Its amazing how style that is so current and cutting edge one day looks so stodgy and dated the next. They kind of reminded me of DeLoreans.
Maybe Bimotas handle great on the street, but since my ass will never grace one's seat all I can do is look and from a styling perspective, they fall short.
I've seen quite a few of them in real life. The styling cn be hit-or-miss; the Mantra, for instance, did nothing for me. OTOH, they did a couple of models with a "direct" frame that had a simple beam that went directly from the steering head to the swingarm mount in a straight line (as viewed from the side). Those were way cool; I think they did two with Suzuki engines and maybe one with a Yamaha engine like that.
fall short??are you nuts??
it might not be you cup of tea but saying that their design "falls short" is nonsense.look at their new models that pure hotness..When it cames to design the italians know what they are doing.they are the best.
BTW nice bike i love the suki 1100
I'm talking about their older bikes. I loved the 80s as much as anyone else who lived through them, but those bikes are SO 80s they have become pure kitsch. Compare them to my GSXR1100 or a MotoGuzzi Daytona in that era and you'll see what I mean.
Their modern bikes look good, in my opinion. But in 20 years will we be talking about how "turn of the century" they look?
I guess those look ok. The ones I've seen are from the late 80s and are usually white. Here are some pics, they look OK enough I guess but the styling reminds me of the late 1980's Honda HurricaneCBRs, only more bulbous. I'll add one to the pics so people can compare.
They just look way plasticky, and once the showroom shine wears off they don't seem very "exotic." Like I said, I'll never be able to afford one, so since I am restricted to looking that's what I'm judging.
Yes some of those YB bimotas are not that pretty (but still better than the Japs), but compared to the rest of their time they were so more advanced in the chassis department.
Just look at your pics, usd forks, big brakes, huge aluminium beam frame....
I love Bimotas
That's a really bitchin' bike. If I ever have to replace my Monster, there's a very high probability that I would pick one of these. Then see if I'd become the world's first Bimota over 100K miles. :lol
You guys are killing me... No one has said a word about the Vee Due.... The only 500cc 2-stroke thats direct injection technology could have changed the world...
