Ducati design boss Pierre Terblanche leaves

Pierre Terblanche, Ducati’s design boss for the last decade, has left the firm to set up a design studio of his own.
Terblanche, who can count designs including the Ducati 900SS, 999, Supermono and Multistrada among his achievements, will officially leave Ducati at the end of the year.
Speaking to MCN, he said: “I’m not with Ducati as from the end of this year, and as from next year I’m free to pursue other interests.
“I’d like to do some new things. I’ll have a studio of my own, and while I’ll still do bikes I’d also like to work on some other things, maybe boats.
“At heart I am a really a designer, not a manager, and this will give me the chance to do new things.”
He was f*cking fired, because he sucks. The 999 is universally regarded as a massive design failure. Everyone hated its looks; from the moto-press on down to us internet geeks. The Multistrada is a boring and uninspired machine also.
Ducati has really turned things around recently; no thanks to Terblanche. The 1098 and Hypermotard are wildly popular, as will be the new 848. They're making the right move by getting rid of him.

The 999 was a design failure and everyone hated its looks?

Wrong. Factually wrong.
True, most people did not like it, especially since it succeeded the gorgeous 916/996/998, and their fanbase loved those. But, there are still PLENTY of people out there that love the looks of the xx9 bikes.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but I think they're still pretty in their own way. I think they're ahead of their time, looks-wise. By like 20 years. But the fact remains they are not UNIVERSALLY regarded as ugly, I know plenty of people who love the looks. I'm not one of them, but still gotta call you out on it.
I love the look of the 999 as do many people. It was hated enough to be featured in the matrix. LOL!
Now the multistrada, no one is gonna defend that, but to say the 999 was a universal failure is wrong. It would be more accurate to say that it was a 'love it or hate it' design.

Boring and uninspired are what is used to describe the big four bikes. They all very much look alike.
Your comment about the Hypermotard being great with Terblanche being a massive design failure is pretty funny. Yes, they made the right move by getting rid of him and his Hypermotard desgin.
The xx9 was ahead of its time but that statement merely means people are unwilling to change radically but are only willing to gradually. They will change eventually. The fact is the xx9 is a design that will still look new (not just "good" or "classic," NEW) for years to come.
Put the xx9 next to a 1098 and ask someone who knows nothing about bikes which is the newer one.
