Yeah, I had major problems loading pages from their site too....makes me wonder if their server is crashing due to increased traffic...or if they are just another fly-by-night company.
That or they just made it up. How many cops do you know that can do physics equations involving friction? And if you know any why are they cops and not physicists or something?

Still have to have some variables to fill in - distance travelled, speed of the bike, skid marks?
I'm no expert....but I would imagine the speed of the bike was estimated based on a number of factors (bike damage from impact, bike distance traveled, statements from witnesses, skid marks, etc) and then that was used to calculate the speed of the rider. Impact speed is calculated using the riders take-off speed (his speed at the point he separated from the bike) and the distance traveled to the impact point. I'm sure they also factor in the distance he traveled from impact to stop and used that to calculate his speed at the point he hit the ground.
...haven't put pen to paper myself on it, but that's where I would start.

1) The speed number was complete bs, maybe quoted by some trooper as a guess and the media ran with it.
2) They have much more info than what was released, and the number was calculated from the info we don't have.
I would tend to agree with #1. It's not likely he was traveling at 140mph when he hit the ground...unless his bike was moving at ludicrous speed when he wrecked. It's more likely they're using an equivalence...like a rock traveling in one direction at 60mph hitting a rider going the opposite direction at 60mph....impact is at 120mph, although neither object is traveling at that speed.
