on my way back from class, getting ready to turn left onto my street, start to gradually slow down flashing my brake lights (something I always do). I check my mirrors before making a full stop (about to put my feet down) and I see a piece of shit with diffent colored fenders behind me and it doesn't look like their slowing. I just gun it and sure enough, I hear screeching brakes as I gas it. Bastard did not tag me but damn if I had not checked those mirrors. Turning left in a busy street has always made me nervous for this reason. Just figured I share, been over a year and the closest call yet. Ride safe and check those mirrors. here's a shout out to da chief upstairs for giving me a get out of jail free card.....

I feel you man, stuff like this happens to me frequently because the area I live in (North Florida) is full of half blind blue-hairs that wont recognize anything smaller than a miata as a tangible vehicle.....I dont know if this is due to their failing vision, shortening attention span or just the malevolent disregard that many elderly drivers seem to have....Either way its scary.
I always do that.. I don't trust ppl for anything.. I think i look in my mirror more then forward while waiting to make a left.. I get a little worried since they are blowing by me @ around 50+ mph..

ANOTHER REASON TO KEEP IT IN GEAR when you're at an intersection........
(glad you didn't get tagged...)
the thing that scares me is when someone does stop behind me, but then gets impatient if i don't turn right away and goes around me. i'm always worried they're gonna clip my bike or run over my foot.

I ALWASY do a "shoulder check" for vehicles in my blind area. Fact is the Govt prepared testing areas all across Canada, IF you do not do a "shoulder check" or more when turning left or into the lane to the left, while driving a cage or riding a m/c then kiss your thought of obtaining a license to drive a cage or ride a m/c. The Govt officials are overly strict on this along with the RCMP to any insurance firm in warning drivers to do continual "shoulder checks" for YES they do this on the TV continually.
Obviously doing a "shoulder check" is far better then counting on your mirrors.
So I am not blabbering about nothing. Beside check my signature for it was put there for a REASON.
Ask yourself how come this 77 yr old fart is still riding a m/c (three sportbikes in my garage waiting for Spring to come) & started riding back in 1946 & never stopped one year? Could be I do some things in a defensive manner rather then feeling the other drivers will see me & obey the laws of the road.

Ahhh man what intersection were you at? My worst ever intersection for me is Vance Jackson and La Manda by that damn Walmart!

Be part of the solution, not the problem.
Just as I started to turn left (after waiting for traffic to clear) from a narrow 2 lane road, I hear screeching brakes from behind. All I could do at that point was whack the throttle open and hope my front wheel stayed on the ground through a dip in the road at the intersection. Made it. Sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not, but it always helps to watch your six.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).
Ya, this stuff is dangerous. I almsot got hit once when I was about to turn right off the main road and happen to check my mirrors as allways and saw a pack of harley guys comin up on me very quickly and not appearing to slow. So I came to a complete stop isntead of turning infront of him...sure enough 1 cut around me on the right, thinking i was turning left. Other 2 cut around me on my left...Check your mirrors people..
I've had it happen with both lefts and rights. Pretty much anytime I have to slow down while still in my lane I'm watching my mirrors, or anytime I'm stopped.
