Default the pink bike phenomenon (men and women respond please)

been thinking about my next bike. i always avoided the pink phenomenon (what i call the need to add to being female on a bike by having a pink bike and wearing pink gear) because i thought it was...either corny, or just too much.

now i think about my next bike, and if i could get a wicked paint job, what design and colors it would be...and it crossed my mind that maybe i should join the pink phenomenon.

my issues are:
1. there are no men's gear in pink, women's gear doesn't fit , and my only serious vanity about bikes is that the gear (at least waist up) has to match the bike.

2. even though i have grown up and now accept that other women might be comfortable enough in their femininity to marry it to the bike colour...i'm not sure i'm ready for me to be that girl on the pink bike yet...i think somewhere in there i'm still a little snobby about pink, like i was back in the tomboy days in high school...just avoided pink like the plague.

3. but, mine would be the only pink one i have seen in ages, and i really want my bike to not look like everybody else's bike, another way to make my next bike a part of ME. people suggested i could get it in my country's flag colours...but i saw one of those at bike week, that's a hard set of colours to find a jacket and helmet for, and while helmets can be customized, i like colour schemes that are easy to find on a jacket. (my country's colours are black green and gold, with the gold as an x in the flag's rectangle)

what do you think when you see a pink bike or a girl walk in somewhere with a pink helmet in hand?

I'm just happy to see a chick riding to be honest with ya. I think you avoid most the negative connotations commonly associated with a lot of pink by being on a bike anyways, so it'd be whatever you like. Really wouldn't make me think either way, although I don't like pink everywhere either no matter who's on the bike.

I do think that a girl riding with a bike or gear that has just a hint of pink is cool, though. Maybe as an outline or something to that effect, just enough to let you know it is a girl.

pink.black and white camo scheme

i've never seen that before. as long as you like the color your bike is, then it should'nt matter what you get. i'm not much for the "girl power"
pink thing myself. you got a bike,(girl or guy) ride it.

besides. i'd rather see that she can in fact "ride". not just look cute

Well, this is just my opinion but I can't stand women around bikes, either riding them or as passengers. And women with pink whatever is even worse because that screams, "pay attention to me!"

do you think the same thing with all bikes where the bike and riders' gear match, or just the pink bikes?

and you're kidding yourself about the fashion statement thing, so many men and women make their cars, their homes, and their bikes a part of who they are by adding something, changing colours, taking something away, moving things around...if you've ever rearranged furniture in your house or bought any car with more than an engine, 4 wheels, and a seat, you're making a fashion statement.

Its an observation.... maybe im old school, but for me, having a bike is about the ride, not how I look when I stand next to it, ya dig?

that's what i thought too...the girl power effect of it is not what i'm going for.

traces of pink like what guy above suggested might be good.

it really wasn't about posing next to it...but the pro racers don't have to have bike and gear matching, really, but they do. everyone has some little vanity about their bike. people paint their bikes all the time...i don't think it's necessarily about how they look standing still, but nobody buys a bike in a colour they hate (with no plans of repaint, at least)...so at some point everybody thinks about their bike's colour.

i was never big on pink, but i thought about it this next time...we'll see.

Not that it wouldn't be a cool idea, and it's your bike and you should enjoy it, BUT when the time comes to sell and you have a pink bike you're going to have a lot more trouble selling it because of the completely different crowd. Anyways just something to think about later.

People personalize everything these days, so why not? Though you might want to just use pink decals (flames/tribal/whatever) for an accent, so you don't limit your resale value.

So why bother commenting Ivan ....geez

Anyway I first started out wearing a pink and black jacket and a pink not soo much cause I was the girl type ( mush more a tomboy )but I was thinking safety ! How the hell could anyone miss the bright pink chick !?!?! Seriously I was almost hit 4 times in the first couple months , cagers never noticed .Also people would say things like ," omg you look so cute " and " how adorable " I said screw it cause I am really not a girly chicks anyway and I went to black, pink bike def no ! I just tend to take people more seriously who aren't about showing off a bit and I think that chicks are when I see them wearing pink , but that is just my 2 cents
