i need a new rear tire for my ninja 250, i dont' want to go with dunlop becuase they suck... big time i heard some good thing about Pirelli Sport Demons but i dont know if my dealer is going to have that. i need some good quality tires, what do you recommend? also, i don't know if i should order the tires online and let my local dealers install it or i should just buy the tires from them and install it there? but i don't know what kind of tires they carry, we only have one motorcycle dealer around here, since it's a small town. any input will be appreciated.
I just bought BT45s and I'll take them to the dealer to install as they didn't have a price break for buying it through them and the tires were more expensive that way anyways.
Check the 250 forums here or at ninja250.org for plenty of tire choices.

I have Pirelli Sport Demons on my 250. They grip well and let me push it as hard as I have ever tried to without issue. I would HIGHLY recommend you buy it online though. The dealer I went to made me wait 4 weeks because they couldn't manage to get the rear tire. On top of that, they charged me like $300 for the set of tires. So definitely order online and bring them in.
Not much of anything worthwhile available in the OEM sizes for the Ninja250 and pre 94 Ninja 500 except the Dunlop OEM tires and they do indeed suck as you say compared to the rubber available today.
Metzeler suggests their Lasertecs and Pirelli their Demons both in the 110/90/16 and 130/90/16 sizes and you can't do much better than those for your EX250 or pre 94 EX500. The Demons seem to be the tire of choice on the EX/Ninja 500 forum.
The Lasertecs should wear a little better and the Demons should have a bit more stick. I never tried the Demons but I wore out a pair of Lasertecs on my GS500 and they were excellent, close to sport touring radials as advertised. I use a Lasertec front with a Road Attack rear now.
If you don't mount your own, check around for mount and balance prices in your area. Some places are more agreeable than others about mounting tires they don't sell.
Another Pirelli Sport Demon user here. they are a very good tire. I even put them on the Yamaha Maxim 750 I restored for my old man.

i vote Pirelli Diablos! they're listed under scooter tires, but its the same tread pattern and compound as the regular models. you can get them in the stock size or a wider 140/70 R and 110/70 front. i don't really know about tread life since i only have about 700 miles on them so far, but i like em. they're also a good bit cheaper than just about everything else available.
i got mine through Dennis Kirk. they stick great too- i drug the pegs with mine the day after i got them and they felt fine the whole time. still plenty of tire (or chicken strips if you will) left even when pushing it
i was going to try some Avon AM63 (Viper Stryke?) but bikebandit.com kept screwing around with me

The Sport Demons are really good tires and grip better than most street riders can ride. You should be able to get both tires for around $200.00 shipped on-line.
Order them on line and shop around for mounting/balancing/old tire disposal as it can vary wildly from about $40.00 a pair to $100.00 a pair!
Another vote for the Sport Demons. If you want lots of very informed decisions on tires from a lot of other 250 riders, check out the Ninja 250 Riders Club. It's a great resource for all things related to the bike.
I would've gotten Sport Demons if my dealer had them.
Instead, I got ripped off on some of the shit Dunlop stock replacement fuckers. Man, they're better than the junk that was on there, but not by much.
