Default Permit in Michigan??

Does anyone know about a motorcycle permit in Michigan? I have heard that with your permit you can only ride with someone else that is on another bike that has there license? Does anyone know if that is true? I don't know anyone to ride with that has their license and even if I did they wouldn't want to ride all the time that I did. I would like to practice a bit on my bike before I go and take the road test. I'm going today to get my permit. I tried to look on the michigan.gov site but couldnt find a whole lot. Lmk if anyone knows about the michigan rules. Thanks,
Justin

When you take and pass the written test, you'll get a temp permit, but yes, according to the terms of the permit, you have to ride with a licensed rider. Once you take the riding test or take the msf course, you get your full endorsement.

I don't think you should have any problems if you practice in a large parking lot.

Check out the Michigan forum here on SBN and give your area, chances are someone will be willing to ride with ya.

The 180 day temporary permit has limitations. Can only ride with an endorsed rider. No passengers, and no night riding.

Check out the Michigan forums. Lots of people to ride with.
I'm in Westland, so if thats near you, shoot me a pm.

Thanks for the info guys. Didn't even know there was Michigan forums. I'll check it out. Oh ya I'm in Hillsdale about 30 min. from Jackson. Is the written test to get your permit pretty easy? 15 questions??
Also what is riding with someone else gonna do for you??

First link are some sample questions from the test. Second one is the manual the SOS gives out. Covers everything you need to know. Read it a couple times and go take the test. Pretty easy. Or sign up for an MSF class, pass it and get your license that route.

I'm guessing the other rider is to keep an eye on you, give you tips on what your doing wrong/right. Show you road skills you'll need to know. Basically to talk you out of riding if you have no skills.
