Question How long will a tire plug last?

Had to plug my tire because it got puntured with a long ass nail, but I dont want to buy a nesw tire because I selling the bike anyways. So how long will it last and would it need to be replaced? The tire is a continental road attack and it got puntured close to one of the grooves, so when you look at the groove you can see the buldge of tire plug.

It will last until you really need it. I can picture you showing off the bike to a potential buyer, only to see that the patch has failed and the tire is flat.

Inform the buyer of the bike about the patch. Otherwise it may be a liability, as you're selling a bike that you know has a problem and not alerting the seller.

I would not trust a patched tire any longer than it would take me to buy a new one.

I've had a plug in my tire for almost 5,000 miles now. Air pressure has yet to need an adjustment.

I'm amazed at how some people will knock a plugged tire yet run a tire to the cords or even worse yet, straighten an aluminum rim as if it were steel.

To each their own, I'll plug my tire and not give it a second thought.

If a plug was used it will outwear the tire. If a patch were used you may have a problem later. I use the same self vucanizing plug strips in my bike tires (occasionally) that I put in my customers cars. The only problem I've ever had is that i've had to trim it down because it didn't wear as fast as the tire.

Lets see, i plugged my tire in February, put about 1500 miles on it since, and my tire is still fine, easy way to get rid of that bulge, is to do a 5-10 second burn out, you wont be able to tell even where the plug was.

I had 4 plugs in my last tire and ran it to the cords.

Im not talking about the buldge that sticks out on the surface of the tire. The puncture on my tire is close to one of the grooves on the tire so it bulges from the groove like if you look at the groove youll see it buldged out from the side of the groove!

That bulge won't hurt anything.

You have two choices.

1. Quit worrying about it and ride
2. Replace the tire

Never had a problem with a patch yet. No problems with plugs either but I prefer patches. If you had problems with patches they were not instaled properly.

I put a screw into my tire with 131 miles on it. Right into one of the tread sipings. I plugged it and haven't had a problem in 3500 miles, although I think I'll replace it even though I'm not quite to the wear bars. I haven't ridden excessive speeds in the least since I plugged it, however.

Short answer is GET A NEW TIRE!!!!! Motorcycle tires were not meant to be plugged. Common sense, think of the heat/revolutions that tire does! Not safe at all!

Personally, I would get a new tire.

Ever had a tire lose it's pressure at speed? I did once when I picked up a lag bolt. (Should have seen it, but never did. I think it was stuck in a joint in the concrete). It kind of felt like riding on ice where you would turn the handle bars one direction and it would still be going straight. At least it happend when i was going straight.

The way I see it, why increase the chances of something like that happening?

Maybe use it as a selling point.."I put a brand new tire on it so you would be safe when you bought it". That's worth the asking price right there.

The bike is already beat up as it is so Im not expecting more than like 1500. Its just taking up space now and already got my rr so im set So putting on a new tire probably wont give it that much more apeal anyway.

And since were already on the topic of tires, how much air pressure should the tires gain when its heated up? I usually run 35/35
