Default Damn, this sucks.

I left my house today to go out for the evening. I am riding along when I notice the bike is wobbling in the rear and I go into a left hander and it handled like shit.

So I pull over and yep just I thought. My rear tire has a f*ckin nail in it. I feel the tire and its pretty low. Enough I can push my hand and make the tire go inwards. Luckily, I was about 3 minutes from a gas station. I rode it there really slow, filled the tire up, and rode it home. It was only about a 5 minute ride home goin real slow so it wasnt bad.

So I call my local bike dealership, which sucks btw, I tell the girl in service that I got a nail stuck in my rear tire and I ask how much for a new one and service to change. She tells the guy about it and they laugh, assholes. Anyway, they tell me its going to be 180 for a Michelin Tire and 43 to change the tire.

Are they overcharging me 180 for the tire?

My shop is about a 6-7 mile trip. Theres a gas station right near my house. I could fill it up and go real slow to the dealership. You think I can get by going slow only about a 10 minute ride?

Oh yeah, nails sucks.

This sucks, can't go out now. I did a check on Ron Ayers just lookin at different tires. I'm pretty sure they are overcharging me.

I'll probably just end up buying the tire online and have it put on later next week I guess.

So someone recommend me a great rear tire. If someone can give me a direct link to the one i need for my f4i, that would be much appreciated.

im going out for a walk. so frustrated

thanks

You can get the tire a little cheaper off of indysuperbikes.net. I usually pay 174ish for my 190 MPP 2CT which should be more expensive than a 180 MPP. Check into that site and see what you can find. Good luck, nails do suck. Why would they laugh? Its not your fault you go the nail in the tire.

www.swmototires.com is your friend

$180 for a dealer tire is not an unusual price.

Can you put a plug in it? I'm running a plugged rear tire in the FJR right now.

Since my first nail, I carry one of these kits:

http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1..._3518&tier2=53

I've used it once and the plug got me home from about 40 miles away. Just make sure to carry enough CO2 cartridges to pump up a rear tire (5-6 small ones).

http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...61_G&tier2=218

A PP 180 is $140. The shop near me charges $12.50 to mount and balance if I bought the tire from them and bring in the rim.

Nearest Cycle Gear to you may be CT, however.

Is the tire in bad shape? If it's just a nail hole, and the tread's OK, and it did't get damaged when you were riding with it low, why not just put a plug in it and keep the tire you've got? If the tire's in good shape, and you're not running a track/doing aggressive high performance riding, a plug's likely a 7.00 fix that'll do fine.

Ughhh...it's this kind of shite why I will never take my bike to a dealership again. or buy anything from them for that matter.

Do you have a local sportbike shop? They tend to be cheaper on labor and actually give a crap about your business.

+1 to non-dealer stores.

i bought a Metzeler M1 off denniskirk.com (who price matched from ronayers.com) for $130 shipped to my door.

i called the local shop (non dealer) about putting it on. when i got there, they asked if i should replace the front too. i said i probably would soon, and that i was gonna order one from the internet.

they said "oh, we have one in stock." and i told them "sorry, but i can get them real cheap on the internet. so unless you price match...." and they interupted me with "we do."

i got set up with the front m1 for $95 instead of $135 which they normally woulda charged. plus $60 to mount and balance both tires. cost me $300 per set installed. not too bad if you ask me.....

and yes you are getting ripped off paying 180.....

Go down to you local Pep Boys and buy a tire repair kit. It consists of a rasp / insertion tool, and some sticky strings. Pull the nail out. Make the hole bigger with the rasp. Put in the plug. Fill the tire. High-five your self and ride off. Order a Michelin Pilot Power from www.swmototires.com. Pay someone to put it on or man up and put it on yourself. Simple.

This just happened to me again today! Seems like every other set of tires, I get a nail.

Went to my shop, had it patched and ready to go in 21 minutes.
Patched from inside, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a plug.
