It had to happen and so it did. Im rolilng around my brothers area waiting for him to get home. I was coming up on a turn so I downshifted to second and was going about 20-25mph. Im going through the turn and spotted a patch of sand too late. I really thought I was just outside the patch of sand. But I wasnt.
I stayed smooth on the throttle and it didnt matter. Sand got me and down I went. I tried to stay as relaxed as possible and just let go of the bike as soon as I hit the ground. Its a pig of a bike and I didnt want to be under it at all. I remember thinking "this sucks, and this is going to hurt." It did, badly. I hit hard on my left side, shoulder back, hip and all of it and slid for what seemed like an eternity. It was about 20 feet. over a guys driveway and onto his front lawn which he was watering as a matter of fact. Under other circumstances it would have been funny. It knocked all the wind out of me and as I sat up I checked my bike first. LOL! The highway bars saved any real damage. Just my left mirror and my clutch lever is slightly bent but works fine.
My front brakes seem very hard to pull in now and dont stop me very well at all. Brand new pads put in today too. It went down on the left side so thats confusing me. Any help there would be great.
Five people came from down the street to check on me. Two of them riders themselves. They said it looked like I hit real hard and I feel it now too. But it was really cool of them to check me out.
As for me Im only sore. My gear saved my ass. I had a KBC Viper TK-8 Helmet on. A* Gloves and a Firstgear Mesh Jacket. All the gear held up well. My jeans started to wear through a little and my hiking boots protected my feet in the initial crash. I wouldnt be typing this without my gear. My left glove took a beating and my helmet got scraped it seems on the way down. I dont remember hitting my head though.
All in all a good night. My bike was ridable and Im typing this. So it could have been worse. Thats my crash story. Sorry its so long.

That sucks. It didn't have to happen, but it did. Glad you and the bike are basically OK. Hope you both mend well and quickly. Sand can be deadly, but now you'll keep a better eye out for it.

Never out-ride your ability to react (even stop) within the distance you can see (at least on the street).

Im glad that you made it out ok. It is nice to hear another story of how gear saved your ass. I am hoping that others will learn form your experiences and start wearing it. I know I do. Anywho. Im glad that you are ok. I hope to hear that you are riding again soon.
Im glad youre okay.. Ive told my new-rider friends its nice to drop your first bike, it helps you focus more on your own well being rather than how messed up the bike is.
Next time youll be counting toes and fingers instead of running to the bike to see how bad it is...
Sorry to hear about the wreck, seems like not too long since I read your post about getting the bike. Glad you're ok, and the bike is mostly ok too. Please give the bike a good look-over (I'm sure you already have!) or have it gone over by a friend or someone familiar with bikes. There may be some damage that you can't readily see that could cause trouble down the road. Like you said, at least you could sit down at home and write about it.

Thanks all! I almost went out the door without my jacket. I figured my brother only lives 5 minutes away so I dont need it. Im so glad I put it on. Now I wont ever think of leaving home without it.
Oh I got right back on her. Once the flooded engine would start 15 minutes or so later I rode to my brothers and had dinner and then rode back home. Best to just get right back on it and go is what I say. I will avoid sand like the plague from now on.
I really thought I was wide of it, thats the scary part. It doesnt take much does it? Im glad it was an old cheap bike and not a new bike!

You survived and will be smarter as a result, Iv never been down that hard myself.
Curious how close to the beach were you? OVer here Sand is everywhere if your within a mile of the coast line
I was nowhere near the beach even though Im in Florida. My brother lives in a new development of houses. I should have been more careful there is sand everywhere. They excavate the lots and its gets all around. I almost took my car, but at the last minute decided it was beautiful outside and I would take my bike cause I havent ridden in a few days. Its funny how life works out. I almost left without my jacket. Im glad I didnt. Thanks for all the well wishes. I cant sleep even now. LOL! I have replayed it a few times in my head and Im glad Im in one piece here.
