Default power commander

How does the mapping part actually work? I am planing on buying a Yoshimura Carbon Fiber TRC Full Exhaust System for my 2006 R6 and then eventually getting a power commander + K&N. If I get just the exhaust system first will I still see gains? or is it going to mess it up with out a power commander? When I eventually get the power commander and filter is there like pre determined map that I just download real easy or does it take allot of tweaking to get it right?

full exhaust may not do any good until you get the PC3....

you can get standard maps for your type of exhaust, howver the best way is to get a custom map for your bike.

not if you just download the predetermined ones from their website. if you want the best performance, though, a custom map is the name of the game, and those cost money. Anywhere from $200-$300, depends on your tuner.

The pc3 usb wires into your stock wiring (normally), by just unplugging and replugging... then follow the instructions that come with the PC3.

Basically you use a usb cord to hook a computer up to your pc3. You then install / run the dyno-jet mapping software that comes with it as well. Looks like this:

You download the map files from the dyno-jet website. There are tons of them on there, so you'll probably be able to find the one for your specific year / make/ model bike, and even the exhaust you have.

If you can't find the one for your type of exhaust, you can either try a similar map file for a different type of exhaust and see if it works good, test drive it and whatnot.... or do it the right way and take it someplace to get it dyno-tuned to get a custom map made for you.

Yes, you will get gains on a stock bike with a PC. BTW, stay away from K&N and go with BMC.

The PC is part of the whole package.

--The mechanical opening and closing of the engine valves.
--The electronically controlled triggering of the spark (your PC commander).
--The controlled metering of the fuel.
--Your exhaust system.

To be fair, you will only gain a marginal amount of HP from a PC and a exhaust system change. Many people think their bike is substantially more powerful after an exhaust swap...often this is because you lose your midrange and then get a "peaky" bike.

As pointed out before...if you're going to do this right, pay for a tuner and buy the whole package.

However, my philosophy is simply to buy a bigger bike because, basically, there is no amount of money you can spend that will make your R6 make the power of a 750. The amount of money you would have to spend in order to make a perceptible difference is better spent on better suspension, more comfortable leathers/helmets/boots/gloves, and at least two trackdays (those skills will stay with you for the rest of your life).

Bottom line: your bike is already pretty damned good completely stock. Here's a completely stock R6 hauling ass. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DvSdwtlKc2I
