Default Paging Alarms

[yes, I did search and didn't find the results I wanted]

Hey guys,

As I was suiting up to run to the store from my girlfriend's apartment complex (where I stay about 4 nights a week), a man approached me and asked how long I'd been bringing my bike here. After I replied that it was the first season I was doing so, he warned me than his, and 4 other bikes in the complex, had been stolen. He was using a disc lock and had locked his forks, so he assumes that they just lifted it into a van/truck and drove away.

I plan on locking my bike to her carport with a cable, but after personally hacksawing one off of a keg after my friend forgot his own combination I don't have a whole lot of confidence in them.

What I would like is a paging alarm system. I know that barely anyone reacts to an alarm nowadays, and I feel like it probably wouldn't even wake me up. A paging alarm system, however, would be nice. I've looked at the scorpion alarm systems, which are tempting, but I also need new tires and some work on my car, which means I'm pretty broke. Are there any cheaper alternatives that can page about 50 yards away through one wall reliably?

I'm also considering theft insurance, which I'll call progressive about tomorrow. I'd rather avoid the event in the first place.

[And to think - last year I left my old tx500 in the lot with the keys in it several times on accident. Must have been too much of a piece to steal!]

Get the unbreakable motorcycle locking chain, toughest chain probably available for bikes. www.Almax-Security-Chains.co.uk

A few motorcycle publications have given these chains EXCELLENT reviews, like MCN for example. I think it's about Ftime somebody made a REAL tough chain for the bike, not a phony like Kryptonite either.

i have a scorpio alarm, works pretty good. at my apt i can arm/disarm from anywhere in my building. at work i get signal up on the 8th floor about 150-175 yards away, but can't arm/disarm it from there, only receive pages, which is good enough for me. it can also alarm in "silent mode", so the perpetrator doesn't know that a pissed off gun-toting bike owner is on his way ;)

I also chain my bike to my car at the apt. after having 2 bikes stolen i can't be safe enough.

You could buy that Almax chain and chain the bike to her car or a metal pole.
