Arrow Xena Disc Lock Alarms?

I am looking to buy some kind of security for my bike when I take it out. I want something portable and somewhat lightweight so I can keep it in a backpack or attached to the bike somehow.

I read a lot of posts on the forum about preventing bikes from being stolen, and obviously if a thief really wants your bike he is going to get it. What I am looking for is an inexpensive deterrent, so maybe they will move on to something easier. I already have full coverage insurance on the bike.

The Xena Disc Lock Alarms look interesting. Has anyone tried them? How well do they work?

This seems like a better option against theft than a disc-lock alone. Looks like I can get one for about $90 or so.

Specifically, I am looking at the XE15 because it is yellow and a visible deterrent. What do you guys think of them?

Thanks!

I have one, and it works...Mess with the bike too much, and it will go off. Just don't get too confident in the security that it offers. If some joker pulls up in a van to just toss your bike in the back, your nice & new disc alarm will just be making their drive away (with your bike) a little louder. That said it is a visual deterrent, and it is better than not having it.

I have one, makes it harder for YOU to drive off before taking it off because of the alarm which can save a lot of money in repairs.

I have one. I like it for the "don't sit on me factor" (alarm).

It's good for as far as disc locks go - the alarm keeps you from riding off and forgetting it's there.

I dont' have one, but always thought they would be good for the situation wehre you are in a shotty motel in the middle of nowhere...and your bike is parked right outside your hotel room, in a place where they would have to move it significantly to get it on a truck.

Are they pretty loud? And if it is set off, how long does the alarm last?

Inside, in a closed room, trying to put new batteries in it = Loud.

Outside, it's just annoying...

No, unless they've changed it (possible, mine's a couple years old) they go off for a short while, like 10-15 seconds maybe? I'm not going to go set mine off to see, thing is damn annoying. But it's very sensitive, so if someone is still messing with your bike when it stops it'll just go off again. How sensitive? It's hard to get the key into it without setting the alarm off.

Well, I found a good deal on EBay for a new XE15 for $85 shipped. It also came with:
  • 12 Extra Batteries
  • OnGuard 5061 Cable lock
  • Reminder Cord
Not bad when the MSRP of the disc lock alone is $100

They're good except for one feature that pisses me off to no end.

For some reason, they thought it would be a good idea to put a "low battery" alarm on the thing. So this loud ass beep goes off constantly (every 2 seconds) to tell you that you have a low battery, and also do drain any remaining battery power you had left.

Yep. sometimes it goes off when i close the door on the shed. I'd rather have it be like that than not sensitive enough, though.
