General SportbikesThis area is made for sportbikes in general. Posts that dont really belong anywhere else besides here. Questions can be answered and addressed to fully understand certain aspects. If your question is Manufacturer specific please post it there.
Untrue. It would be foolhardy for lubricant manufacturers to build a product that is incompatible with seals. The composition of seals presents problems that both petroleum oils and synthetics must overcome. Made from elastomers, seals are inherently difficult to standardize.
Ultimately it is the additive mix in the oil that counts. Additives to control seal swell, shrinkage and hardening are required, whether it be a synthetic or petroleum product that is being produced.
the only problem with that statement is car manufactures use all kinds of different seals from many different companies. who know for sure if those said companies even make a quality seal to begin with. I doubt the car manufactures really care if they are saving money for cheaper parts.
I am a member of another messageboard for the type of truck I have, almost everyones engines start leaking from almost everywhere over time. not all the same places leak for everyone but it seems 95% of all the engines, v6's and 4cyl they used leak from someplace over time. some people claim they have only used synthetics others regular oil. there doesnt seem to be any proof either oil type is superior.
some guys are getting over 300k miles from an engine that has only used regular oil its entire life. again, there doesn't seem to be any proof synthetics actually protect that much better.

My KTM came with synthetic and has had nothing else in it. It seems to seep out everywhere a little. No clutch issues. it is a 525 SMR I run exclusively on a road racing track at high RPM, no issues. Of course when my clutch starts slipping I will blame it on the synthetic oil and my favorite false science, global warming.

The idea is ,w/regards to the first post, is during break in you should be changing the oil a good 2-3 times in the first few 1-2 thousand miles. So if it's not sitting there for long go with the cheap stuff.
That's the concept any way.

Why would you want to break in your engine with "cheap stuff"?

These cars come with synthetics straight from the factory
Aston Martin
Bentley Amage and Bentley
Chevrolet Corvette C6 and Z06
Viper SRT-10
All Porsche vehicles
Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles
Mercedes SLR
Mitsubishi EVO III
Pontiac GTO
None of those cars have motorcycle engines and they have dry clutches, not wet clutches like sportbikes.
Jet airplanes come with jet engines, doesn't mean it's safe to put one on your sportbike. Don't be rediculous.
dont get confused. its the additives in some synths that affect the clutch. synthetics without friction reducing additives have no ill-effect on a motorcycle engine.
