Default My new bike: Aprilia RSV Mille R

I got this bike about 3 weeks ago. It was a combination and Christmas present. It's a 2001 Aprilia RSV Mille R. 10K miles, mostly stock except for a slip on titanium Akra, derestricted intake, CA smog delete and cut ECU wire.

The performance is everything I'd imagined it to be. Coming from a 600cc Yamaha I-4, this engine has got a lot more grunt. Redline is lower but the power and torque comes on HARD from 4k and up. Riding on the street in 1st-4th gear, gobs of torque are always right on tap. The first few times I opened the throttle fully I was startled by how easily the front end lifts up.

This is the upgraded model with carbon fiber trim, full Öhlins suspension, and anodized light weight O.Z. wheels. The dash is LCD with all sorts of functions and an analog RPM gage. The gas tank is beautifully curved allowing me to really grip it tight with my legs on the curves.

When I first sat on it, I thought the seat was really high and the bars sort of too low, but I've since become used to it. I still need to sort the suspension. I've got it about halfway between the factory recommended street and racetrack settings and it feels good but I'm sure I can get it tweaked better.

I haven't been riding her hard yet, but I know this bike will last a long time. My first sportbike was a YZF-600. After about 20k miles I felt like I had finally outgrown it and wanted something more extreme but it was stolen and I haven't had a motorcycle in a while. I'm starting over again with the Aprilia, but I think by this summer my riding skills will be back to where they were on the Yamaha. And after that, I believe this bike will only get better.

Sorry for the crappy pics. I keep her inside and it was raining today.

hey man, that is a hella nice bike. welcome to the Aprilia fold. Aprilia is truly an underappreciated brand of bike. come on over to http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/ for some good tech info and answers to any questions you might have. And a Factory Pro eprom chip from Evoluzione really helps things too. Snaps up the throttle response and fills in the power curve, along with some boost up top.

I'll say. These bikes ooze quality. The frame and swing arm are works of art.
I believe your falco has the same engine - Rotax 998cc fuel injected v-twin. From what I've read, they are practically bullet proof.

The Mille swingarm is so cool that I've got one on my bike haha.

Yeah, the Rotax's are quite durable. There are tons of guys that check their valves at 20k-odd miles and don't have to adjust a shim. My Falco's got the same engine but I think you prolly have some better heads and slightly different cams. Still plenty of grunt to put a smile on my face.

Man that bike is so sweet!

A few years ago the local Harley dealer used to be a Aprilia dealer as well, but dropped them I think when Aprilia was going through some company change overs. A bigger reason I suspect is that's about the time they started pushing Buell sport bikes. Well you can imagine walking into a dealer ship and people just ignoring your own COMPANY BRAND bikes and going straight to the "foreign" bikes.LOL

They had an RS250 road racing(not street legal) bike and I would just drool at the site of it. I think it was priced in the high 7s low 8s though!

I can't describe how beautiful it was. It was as much of a piece of rolling art as it was a motorcycle.
