I am thinking about what I want to do for 2007 bike-wise and I am tossing around the idea of selling the 954RR and one of my old cars and picking up a 2007 600RR.
I may just pick up a newer 05 or 06 1000RR next year, but I am very tempted by the 2007 600RR.
I find 1000cc bikes are good for commutes, but the 600cc is an easier bike to learn on and go faster on for most novice riders. I myself want to pick up a new 07 R6, I was at california speedway on my R1 and that damn R6 with the 17k+ redline was whooping on everyone! Not to mention turning on a dime..
So I dont see anything wrong with trading to a 600cc bike, nothing wrong at all..
I can't speak about moving from a 1k (though my last bike was an older 1100), but I can say that I love my 600 more and more every time I ride it. I will have it for 2 years next month, I've got over 20k miles on it, and I'm not even close to being bored with it. It's still teaching me things, esp now that I'm doing track days. I absolutely love it.
Yeah I traded my R1 in this week on a K6 600 - there are benefits in both, but the 600 is more than enough for the street, wheelies are fun, and you get more confident, cause its a tad harder to loop em' compared to the thou...
thought about a 750 though?
Yeah, my issue is that I commute 5 days a week and ride the twisties on the weekends.
On the way to work I want a 1000 and on the weekends I want a 600...
However, the wife would throw a fit if I bought another $5000-$9000 bike. I debated picking up and older F2, F3 or F4 that I can find in the $3000 range, but I dont want to own a bunch old aging bikes because I dont want to lose all that money in the long run.
All I have ever ridden are litre bikes so I fear disappointment.
I dont care about the ego side of riding a big bike.
I have time to think about it, but I just wanted to bounce it off everyone here.
Edit: I have been tempted by the 750, but I would have to be a turncoat. Maybe that is a good descision since it's in the middle and the only newer 750 out there.

Well lets remember guys and gals it might be a “downgrade” in terms of engine size, but power wise a brand new 07’ 600 makes as much power as most liter bikes from 3 or 4 years ago. Add in the fact that they are lighter and the new 600's have an enormous power to weight ratio.
Technically I ride a “Liter” bike which makes 120 RWHP but that is what the new 600’s make. Sure its fun to say your in the “liter bike club” but its really only a label.

This is the truth, my K6-600 is pushing out equal power to my stock 2000' R1 was.... just at a different rev range...
600's force you to 'ride' them....thou's have a habit of making you lazy...

I'd personally do a 675 or Gsxr 750 if i were you, man....
I love 600's and all that, but i can say i would NOT want one for just commuting on. Not that there's anything wrong with them, I just prefer other things.
And yeah- that 675 is SEXY as hell. I know i'm a Triumph addict, but even so- there's no denying it. PLUS- i really do think it's the best of both worlds for what you're wanting. The triple makes a TON more low end than the I-4's do.
I had a 02 954 and traded strait up for a 03 600rr. I rode the 600 around for a summer and it was just not comfortable at all. Light as a feather and was really flickable, but I couldn't get over owning a bike that made me literally wobbly when I got off after a 2 hour ride. Now I finally have the bike that I love. Comfortable, and the torque and sound just blow me away. especially the torque exiting a corner with the sweet rumble that scare deer and mountain lions away from the road is priceless. Atleast test ride some liter twins and give 'em a chance...
Oh- it's fine and i'd do it. I HAVE done it. I have no real problems with it. But if i were going to buy ANY new bike with commuting being more than 50% of my riding, i'd get something with a little more torque. It probably wouldn't be a 675 or 750 either, but i also don't take as many fun rides as our friend Alex. Unless those videos are made up.
A bike to mainly carve up canyons and take to the track? A 600.
There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a matter of preference.
I started on the two-fiddy and then got the TLR... but now that I've had my taste of big power, my next bike will be something smaller either a 600 or motard. Its more fun cruising around town on a smaller bike.
Well...if we get our new car in the next two months and I can ditch mine I will definetly be hitting you up Tony. :lol
Time frame might be kinda tight to sell my car, but that is a great idea.
It would be nice to have both to use as I please.
The only way I would go to a 600 only is if I bought a brand new 06 or 07. If I pick up an older 600 I am keeping the 954.
Dammit...all these things to think about.
