So I put on new pads (front) yesterday and now I am quite incapable of getting the brakes to bleed. I have done it multiple ways (tube into jar, tube back into master cylinder) and have tried them all more that should be necessary. At one point early on the fluid did get low enough to suck a bit of air into the master cylinder, but that should be clear by now.
Remove master cyl from bike. Hold cylinder horizontal while slowly squeezing the brake lever. The air buble that is stuck inside the master cylinder will come out into the reservoir. Caution: brake fluid eats paint
thanks for the advice, gave it a try (actually two) and no luck....anybody else...I am thinking of just going and getting a hydraulic brake bleeder, but I don't kknow if that will help if the master cylinder is toast...
Try this, loosen master cyl brake line bolt and slowly squeeze the lever. Make sure to place rags around the bolt. While the lever is depressed retighten bolt. Most of the time there is a small bubble of air trapped in the master as it sits on an angle and the air cannot escape.
tie back the brake lever and leave it over night. sometimes, this can help for whatever reason.
can you put a bleeder bolt into the master cylinder? i have one on both my clutch and brake master cylinders and they come in handy for getting that last bit of air out.
well, i went ahead and got an ebay master cylinder (from a person with a perfect score), as none of these things worked. thanks for your help...any last hail marys?
This might sound weird, but take the master cylinder loose from the clip-on and shake it a bit. Sometimes you get an air bubble trapped in there and shaking it will cause it to go back into the reservoir. It's worked for me a couple of times.
So I figured it out, and it's an I'm-an-idiot answer...
There are 2 spacers of different sides on the axel on either side of the wheel. I put htem on backwards and somehow this offset caused the brakes to be unable to squeeze tight enough...So what i thought was inability to bleed was actually inability for the brakes to grip, I'm guessing. I'm not positive that this is accurate, this is just my theory at the moment...at any rate, I have it fixed, and not have a perfectly good master cylinder from ebay to sell again...well, whatever.
The caliper has 2 bleed valves make sure you bleed them both and start the farthest one away from the master cyn.I was having trouble one time and forgot to bleed the other valve.
