Yup, be cool...it'll pay off more often than not. I gave a guy a break for 122 in a 55 on the interstate a couple weeks ago. There were two reasons- #1) he was probably the nicest guy I've stopped in 15 years & totally took responsability for his actions without knowing what the outcome of the stop would be........#2) I wanted to see the look on his face when he realized he'd be driving away a free man. As the commercial says......"Priceless".
I got to give a blue light escort to over 500 bikes yesterday that were doing a Veterans Memorial Ride, and I was in my glory. Hell, probably 98% of them were riding Harleys, and it was still cool as shit!
If you ever get stopped, just pray that the cop is a fellow rider because it really is a brotherhood. Really, we're not all dicks!

for those who have gotten off on tickets or gotten a majorly reduced fine how old are you. My stepfather is a police officer, my grandfather is police officer, I have nothing but respect for LEO's and am always very respectful and have never gotten a warning, or even a friendly face from an LEO I can only think this is because of my age. I'm always in gear never wheeling, doing stoppies, or weaving through traffic, just generally riding spiritedly by myself, and this is true even when I get pulled over in my car.
I mean my girlfriend called when she was pregnant, in pain, scared to death and I was rushing home from work in my truck to see what was wrong and the cop still gave me a ticket, and told me she should have driven herself to the hospital or called an ambulance and I could have met her there. She ended up having a misscarriage before I got there. He said I could have killed someone doing 65 in a 45 in my truck, like if I was driving a gew metro I would have gotten a warning.
I can only think I get the additude because I'm young(23). So for all those who have get shit and who don't get shit from cops state your age and lets see if it is an age issue.

i tried being nice last time but the cop just said he'd rather give me a ticket than scrape me off the road... everyone who goes 10mph over the limit will kill themselves i guess...
i dont have nothin against him, im sure he see's a lot of idiots hurt themselves but i was just havin fun in the corners
but an officer did let me go going 63 in a 40 in my car once, i just talked to him like a fellow man, didn't kiss ass, didn't treat him like an ass

+1 on that. I've given out more breaks that Bruce Lee. Every Cop is different. Every stop is different.
Every rider and every motorist is different. You can't judge any one of them from any other previous experience.

Having a cop who is a rider is definitely a plus. I had some bitch run me off the road once approaching a stop light. She just decided she liked my lane and came on over, no signal or anything with me laying on the horn for all I was worth. Funny thing is the cop who stopped me was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. I pull up next to her and start yelling. She yells back. The light turns green and the cop motions me to pull over around the corner. Does NOTHING to the bitch. She just continues on her merry homicidal way. The cop gets out of the car and starts giving me shit and I ask him what I did. He says "you ever hear of road rage?" I start going on about how she ran me off the road and he says he didn't see a thing. Fortunately for me another cop pulls over with us and the two step away for a pow-wow. The second cop comes over and starts talking to me. Really nice guy and a fellow rider. He's asking me about my helmet (HJC Sy-Max flip face) and making conversation while the other asshole runs my tag. When that comes up clear he just tells me to take easy and try to calm down. He says that this kind of thing happens all the time and all I can do is ride as defensively as I can and try to keep my head.
What got me is that there was an obvious incident but the first cop never looked twice at the lady in the car.

^^ same thing happened to me minus the cops.. soccermom in an expedition talking on her cell phone realizes she needs to get over or shes gonna miss her ext, all the while chatting away on her cellphone. Well this is rish hour traffic in Atlanta so I was surrounded by cages and had NO WHERE to go. i lay on my horn and she just continues pushing me into the other lane with oncoming traffic(this was a 2 lane exit onto another highway). I finally end up kicking her door to make her realize she is going to kill me, she looked at me in shock, and then waved as if to say shes sorry.
I hate oblivious drivers.

I always try to be cool. Usually it gets me the same ticket but still it's there job and I did speed etc...
Here's one that sucked "son are you drunk, and why are you in the HOV lane?" He then felt my tires and messed with my plate.
I replied. "No sir, I am not drunk and motorcycles are allowed in the HOV lane"
He then took his flash light out, and I thought he was gonna beat my ass, but he shined at the sign and said "son read that sign to me"
I read it and it said "this lane for carpools and buses only."
Which he responded "you don't look like your carpooling and you sure aren't a bus."
I told him that the sign that he can't see a bit furher down has a dude on a motorcycle and says "Motorcycles OK"
Welp after going to his car for about 15 minutes he comes back and says " Go ahead, get out of here"

never gotten out of a ticket no matter how i acted. Old cops see a 19 to 21 year old kid on a fast bike and they feel that they need to teach me a lesson.

Sheeesh! Thread says, 'cool LEO', but peeps still gotta pile on...
Like there's no other 'FTP' threads already on here...
Some neighbors from down the street out walking with their kids...
Kid says, 'Mommy, Daddy, look at that cool motorcycle!'
And the parents say, 'Those things are all too dangerous! They'll get you killed!'
All because they knew somebody who knew somebody who's Uncle had and accident on his Triumph Bonnie
chopper back in the 70's... Therefore, all bikes are dangerous!
Does that attitude sound familiar to some of you?

Haven't been stopped on a bike yet (not been riding that long), but I have gotten out of many tickets and had many reduced. Always addressing the officers with a casual politeness and with respect. Very rarely answer the question "do you now how fast you were going?", but I don't lie and say I thought I was going slower than I was. Just tell them I know I was speeding, but I don't know how fast I was going. Once cruising north on I-75 at 110 - 115 in a "red, mustang, convertible". I slowed when I saw him, but still saw him throwin up dirt to come out so I slowed and let him catch up to me. He clocked me at 95 (speed limit was 70), but said because both my wife and I were wearing our belts and were politely honest with him, he wrote me for 5 over (no points on record for that offense) and warned of speed traps on the route we were taking that day.
to sum up it all up, I have had many more good experiences than bad, and only feel I have gotten one ticket I did not deserve. (I paid that quietly since I had gotten the better end of the deal so many times).
p.s. on the age - that incident I was I think 20 yrs old. As a pulled over/ticketed ratio, I have gotten out of fewer tickets since I turned 24, before that I must have gotten some pretty cool cops.
