What does "YZF" stand for?
I've tried doing a search here and on google but couldn't find an answer.
All I could find were stupid smart-ass responses like "Yamaha Zoom Fast" or something like that.
Anyone know?

I think the ZF has something to do with the seat style designation. At least it did when the 600R came out but now the R6 and R1 messed it all up.
They do have YZF dirtbikes so I know its not a street designation.

The motocross bikes are YZ xxx Fs, not YZFxxx s; and Yamaha has used YZ to refer to motocross bikes for more than 20 years. YZF is like CBR, GSX-R, or ZX; it doesn't mean anything, it's just a designation.

Thats not necesarily true ... like the RX7 is because it is a rotary engine, it could have a meaning.

Doesn't the "X" in GSX-R designate that it has 4 valves per cylinder (as opposed to the GS being only 2 per)? Maybe it has some sort of meaning like that but for Yamaha of course.
