Default Shifting from 1st to 2nd I often get neutral

Is that a sign my tranny is worn?

Or is it me not shifting hard enough?

It also happens sometimes when I downshift....from 2nd to first I get neutral again

thanks

My r6 does this too. When you shift make sure you shift hard enough and fast enough. If you are lazy between 1st and 2nd it will fall into neutral.

When it happens it sounds bad and can't be great on you trany. I think your best bet is to concentrate while shifting. If it doesn't happen all the time you should be fine.

if its a false nuetral its bad. it partially engages the gear you want, then pops out and goes into nuetral. at least thats what it seems like. doing it eventually rounds off and messes up your transmission.

Try preloading the shifter too. That helps get past that long throw into second, or back to first.

My old F2 did this also.. Mostly when I was in a hurry and accelerating as fast as possible, racing, ect.. I think its because it is such a LONG throw from 1st to 2nd, and I was in a hurry to make the next gear, that I didnt completely get the shift lever into 2nd..
It never happened to me when I was taking my time,... only when I was in a hurry..

My F2 does this as well. It is just that you are not shifting hard and fast enough as others have said. Just make sure you shift just a bit harder between the two gears.

Its probably operator error. But try moving your shifter downward one notch and see if it improves.

Your bike is old though, so you'd expect it to be a little less precise. How many miles? How long have you had it?

I've had it a couple months but it has 21700 miles.

It doesn't ever pop out of gear into neutral thank goodness.... so maybe I'm just not shifting hard enough.

thank you guys!

Sounds like your not shifting hard enough. The F4i was like that, had to shift pretty hard to get from first to second. I lost count when I first started riding it how many times I scared myself winding up the engine thinking it was in second.
