okay this is a silly question and Yes I did a search..
What happens when debris such as dirt/dust/sand particles/etc. gets in your gas tank? Does gasoline dissolve alot of debris naturally or does the stuff just settle on the bottom of the gas tank?
What kind of problems can occur when you have "dirty" gas?
The reason I ask is I just bought a new 636.. when the dealer filled her up with gas for the first time, they poured it from a nasty dirty red plastic gas container.. Im sure the gas inside was clean but the "spout" was covered in grime... and Im afraid that some of the debris may have fallen into the tank..
I have had NO problems as of yet, and im on my second tank of gas now...
sorry im just overly paranoid and worried, and its bugging the hell out of me.
I cant honestly tell you what happens to the debri, but if you have gotten through two tanks and no stutter yet, your fine. Your fuel filter most likely catches anything ditry in your tank.

I've had debries get sucked up and lodge in the needle valve of my carbs. It jammed the valve open and let a bunch of gas run into the float bowl, which overflowed out the overflow tube. I had to open the carbs up, clean them out and it was fine.
This all happened because the scum form 1000 fillups had settled to the bottom of the tank and I ran the bike on reserve until it was just about out of gas one time.
I'd say that a scuzzy spout probably won't be a big problem though, it was probably clean on the insside.
most bike have a fuel filter, if it doesnt, I would intal an inline filter. i normally install and inline filter anyway just to be on the safe side. especially on carbed bikes because the petcock filter never seems to do a good enough job
