Anyone else hate highway riding?
Man, highway riding sucks. I ride the bike to work and school ocassionally, and each way it's about 25 miles of highway riding. It sucks having to deal with crazy drivers, 18 wheelers, huge gusts of wind, and lack of interesting pavement. What really sucks is that highways are the only place where you can legally get up to speed a bit, but then you can't use it for doing anything more than riding in a straight line. It's pathetic, but the highlight of my work ride is this small curve that I can actually lean the bike over a tad at about 40mph. I need to start finding a back way with some open roads, and minimal cops.

It gets boring after a while, I agree. I like curves much better. That's why I am going to deals gap in May, to get enough corners for about 6 months. You should do some research for some nice curvy roads in your area. talk to some riders and ask them if they know any.

I don't mind some highway riding, I ride the freeway on the way to the canyons to get my tires up to temp. Around town they only begin to warm in the center just in time to cool off at traffic lights.

I don't mind riding the highway, but I don't go out of my way to ride it either.

You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Depends on the traffic whether or not I like riding on the slab. If traffic is medium to light, I have no problem cruising around. But if traffic starts backing up, I'll ride the shoulder to the next exit and just ride the city street to wherever I'm going.

If it's the best way to get somewhere else, then I'm all for it.
All the highways in Japan are expensive toll roads. But I have to say, paying 10 bucks and riding the highway is a lot better than a two hour trip across town in constant rush hour traffic dodging pedestrians, bicyclists, nuts on scooters, taxis that stop anywhere, busses and the regualr cars too.

Sounds like some parts of Miami.
I'll take the superslab over surface streets any day. Things happen faster, and yes the wind gets heavier, but it's a lot more fun than the above. And safer, as well, if you can react in time to the higher speeds.
Now a slab over a good backroad somewhere.. no thanks. Backroads any day!

The hwys in my area are very much to my liking due to them being cut along the Cdn Rockie Mtns so it is ups & downs along with many bends & hard to find even a 1/4 mile of straight road.
Mind you so much consists of two-lane roads with only so many places to pass & if you have a parade of 18 wheelers, logging rigs, low-bed trailers, B-trains lugging finished wood, along with all the tourists with anything from plain rubber necking the scenery & often driving to slow to feeling every crest of a hill might lead to a sharp turn only it is not so, for turns are wel indicated in advance along with suggested speeds. Tack on more tourists with large RVs to those with 5th-wheels----well you have to know how to get by them quickly with hope the RCMP will not spot & nail you with a speeding ticket.
Lots of twisties & some lovely fast bends if you are up to handeling them. So in fact the hwys are my main way of riding & not the type you have, fortunately.

I don't mind highway riding. As long as I am on the bike I don't care what road I am on. Most of my riding is highway riding since I commute alot. I pretty much ride wherever I am going. My favorite is 3 lane 65mph roads!

you can ride longer wheelies on the highway than on the city streets.
