Last time I was up there I got pulled over for doing 63 mph. Got let off with a warning.

Riding isn't only about the scratching on a Sunday morning. Sometimes it's about the 400 mile ride on Saturday to get to where you'll be scratching on Sunday morning with a 400 mile ride home that evening.

The parkway is a blast to ride. $1000 for speeding and reckless driving, and then if you actually go to court it sounds like they will automatically get you for more. The parkway is fun, but I don't have that kind of money to just pay for tickets.
Of course I don't speed through there anyway.

When i lived in Greenville, SC i was there every weekend. I really never saw that many cops there, i think its fairly lightly patrolled.
Some people drive super super slow on it. Looking everywhere but the road. Plus there is almost no where to legally pass so it does get frustrating sometimes. you're better off just pulling over and chilling then passing like a madman.

I am half expecting similar measures for Deals Gap. The tourism dollars for the Gap may make them hesitate. The feds don't really consider the tourism money factor. I have heard that a ticket by the feds does not go towards DMV points. I may be wrong on that. Anyone know for sure?

Just keep yourself reigned in when the road straightens out and you'll be just fine. Towards the southern end with all the nice curves you can easily keep yourself fairly well entertained without exceeding the speed limit by such a large amount that you'll be ripe for one of the big tickets.
When you get close to the Virginia boarder (as travelling from south to north) is where it starts getting difficult to keep it near the speed limit. At that point I just turn around and head back.

Man it's not hard to be hitting triple digits on any end of the parkway if you're really riding. The south end is more fun, but seriously the speed limit is 45 all over the parkway. Even if you're not riding hard you're going to be doubling that in places. That's just how it is.

I had fun at 60 mph on the south end. But I was fully loaded with luggage and was about 2000 miles into the tour at about the four day mark. So I wasn't out there trying to race anybody.
My point is, you can keep yourself plenty entertained without risking a $500 ticket if you have a little self control. Also, I would imagine hitting it on a week day would help too. Not sure if there are as many park Rangers running around then.

I won't have a problem if they take similar measures on the Gap or the Cherohala Skyway. I spent a week up there and didn't see one Ranger.
I ran the Skyway from end to end with the throttle pinned between every curve and nobody bothered me.
Just gotta know when to go.

I don't see a problem with this, and I pretty much agree with the steeper fines. It didn't used to be like that, though...when there weren't as many bikes up there. I remember a time when they rarely even gave tickets up there because speedind wasn't such the problem that it is now.
With that being said, I have driven it a few times...both at high speeds. It is a fantastic road for driving and riding, and I just hope that someday it isn't me on the receiving end of a speeding ticket there (knocks on wood...several times).

I loved riding the BRP when I lived in VA.
The problem is there are too many people in their cars and motor homes taking the time looking at the sites, and are getting scared by someone on a sport bike passing them at what seems to them to be a dangerous speed.
Then again that is also why I know a buch of people that are switching to cruisers so that they don't have to go double the speed limit to have fun!

I live just minutes from the BRP.
I do stray up there ever once in a while.
It is very dangerous.
If you crash it is a long long way down.
The traffic is way to slow to ride fast.
Nothing like coming around a corner at 80mph and find a SUV going 20mph.
The fine's are steep and the cliffs are steepper.
I had a friend get his bike impounded. cost him $2300 for ticket's, towing, and court cost.
I don't think he will ever go back even in a cage.
