Exclamation Contest! Oil Leak and Gas Leak?!?!?!

Anyone heard of Car Talk? The Puzzler? Here's one for the FZ6. So I know there are a lot of bright folks on this forum, so there is bound to be a good answer. Here are three pictures of an oil leak and gas leak that I have had three times now (this is my first time taking the pics). I usually find the oil when I have let the bike sit for two days or more (doesn't happen often). The gas leak I find more often, just dripping. The oil comes out as a ring on the ground (I know why, I am curious what you guys say) and both oil and gas are found under the three "let-off" hoses. In the pic the bike has been moved since yesterday, so the oil leak is over to the side. As you can see - it tends to soak my bike cover too. Well that is all I got - best answer wins my respect!

Good lord thoose are hugs pictures
My guess on the gas is maybe your filling it much or maybe leaving in the garage were it gets hot and then it will overflow(vent) as it should to prevent the gas tank from warping big time from the temp. changes. The oil if its actually oil could also be due to same reason, Or if its something that looks like oil it maybe left over packing grease they but on bikes when shipping them on the boat and its still some under the bike that didnt get washed off during assembly at the dealer.
There is my .02

I agree with WTVa on the gas vent. My 2 cents on the oil is this. I found small oil leaks under my bike every so often. Turned out that the Yamaha tech had lathered so much chain lube on the chain that it was flinging off and getting on the centerstand. After sitting for awhile it would drip off the centerstand.

Yeah, that oil spot looks a lot like a spot I used to get with the sloppy original chain lube, too. It would get all over the sidestand, then drip down when the bike was parked. It left a ring around the footprint of the sidestand.

When I leave my bike in the sun I get the same thing from the tubes, its normal, should taper off.

Wow, those are pretty big pictures. It looks to me like the gas leak is it just venting. (which is a good thing)

was one of your questions, why is the oil in the shape of a ring and not a circle? I would say it is from the gas dropping in the middle and keeping the oil separated from the gas.

Sorry, had to cut my post short before. What WTVa said about the fuel overflow, maybe on the California models that tube goes to the canister. The other 2, one goes to the airbox to drain condensation/oil the other goes to the coolant bottle as an overflow.

Check your airbox for excessive oil, the other two are normal. On bikes w/o sealed batteries you would have a 4th tube for the battery vent!

On a side note, my last bike actually had a plastic plug on the airbox drain that was to be drained every so often. This kept the oil from staining the ground, and of course poison the environment through water run-off blah, blah, blah.................

Ok, so thanks for making those pics smaller - They didn't look THAT big when I uploaded. As for the oil thing - I don't know, my bike has over 2,000 miles on it and the center stand looks fine. I have redone the chain with a spray wax at least three time now. Also - I am not at all low "looking" on the dipstick and I can't find where it may be coming from. Not saying that is not a possibility, but I just can't traces it.

As for the gas - this has happened both at a full tank and at a Trip F of 19.8 miles. That makes me go Hmmmm....

And good one to the ol' St. Louis boy - Fizzy 6. That is what makes a ring.

That's my update for now. Later

Everytime that I've carried my FZ6 in my pickup truck across the state (of Pennsylvania), I've seen a similar stain/mark in my truck bed. I don't know if it's from sloshing around or sitting in the sun all day, but it has happened to me too, and looks similar to yours. It is definitely oil, and is under the drain tubes. I've checked the oil and the level appears to be correct, so I just attributed it to being bounced around in my truck.

Has anyone had a problem with oil leaks or low oil levels in their fz6? I'm just wondering cause last weekend I went on a ride of about 400 miles around Texas. A few days later when I went to wash it, I decided to go ahead and check the oil level since I hadn't done it before. When I checked it, it was 1 quart low and sure enough when I started it and rode it to get some of the water off of it, the oil light came on. I put in a quart and rode it over to the dealership and they took a look and didn't find anything and just told me to keep watching it before and after I ride.

Now according to a friend of mine, BMW bikes burn off a lot of oil and it's not uncommon to be a quart low, but he wasn't too sure my bike should have that same problem (design differences). Has anyone else noticed a low oil level in the first 4000 miles of riding?

Currently I have approx 3200 miles and I did have my first service at 400. So my next one isn't due til 4000
