FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
....I've been waiting for my new bike to come in for a couple of weeks now. Evidently the '05s haven't been released yet even though Yamaha posted an available date of Oct and my dealer nor his rep can tell me what is holding them up. The more everyone talks about this problem the more I wonder if their not trying to make a last minute change to nip this in the butt for the new bikes.......god I hope so!
HEHEHE the re-maping is awsome. The bike shifts into gear smoother now too. I can let the clutch out without giving it gas and get it in gear. The idle holds at 1280-1320 rpms when there three bars on the temp. gauge. It likes to pull power wheelies now too. The best part is that Yamaha gave the dealer the map and they did it for free.
Can you give my name and adress of your service where you have replace TPS? Because I will whrite to Yamaha. Maby they will force my service to fiks my bike
Well, my throttle problems are getting more frequent, and I got a "check engine" light the other day. The good news is that it put a TPS fault code in the computer on the bike. Good ammunition for when I head to the dealer. Let's hope the part isn't on backorder...

Mine developed this problem just after the 18K service. It took the dealer 2 weeks (!) to get the part out of Yamaha Haven't had any further problems since... (here's hoping that continues )
I think mines showing early signs of it now, it's stalled a couple of times stopping at lights when it's not been running long, starts straight away but a bit unnerving if you don't realise and in traffic. I'm on 16k so will try and drag it out to 18k service and get it done then.
Well, Guess I diddnt read down far enough in the posts before I bought my FZ6. I bought a 2005 FZ6 about 2 weeks ago, had I known about this, I may have waited. I wonder if they fixed this for 2005? I'm not used to worrying about my motorcycle. Oh well..... Nothing's perfect.
well hopefully as the numbers of these parts are replaced, they will have a recall that goes back to the first 2004 bikes like mine. Mine was made in november 2003. but it hasnt messed up yet.
If they had a recall id have to un mod my bike too. that would take a day.

Does anybody know how much it would cost to have the TPS installed if it started giving me problems out of warranty. If it is less than $450, then I will probably not buy the extended warranty.
The part was about $140 on my invoice, but they didn't mention how much labor would cost. It took them about three hours, but I'm pretty sure they were taking their sweet time with it. Last I checked in the service manual, it didn't look too hard to install on your own. It requires some calibration, and probably re-synchronization of the throttle bodies if you remove them.

Assuming that bike mechanics bill things like auto mechanics, it doesn't matter how long it actually takes them to do something, they bill by what a book tells them it should take. The stuff I work on is done the same way, I can bill 2 hours for a calibration and it actually only takes me 20 mins.

Well i'm finally having a problem with my fz6, and i'm hoping it's not the TPS but i'd thought i'd run it by you guys and see what you think.
Tuesday afternoon I was riding my FZ6 back from work when I exit the freeway. I start to downshift and everytime I downshift, the bike feels different. So I pull up to the stopsign and I realize the engine had died. I start it up and continue on my way back home but then as i'm shifting up I notice it doesn't feel right either. So I switch the digital display over to RPMs and hold down the clutch and watch it go from 6000 rpms to 0. That's right a big fat 0. I make it back home by giving it a little gas when i'm shifting and slowly easing the clutch out. When I get in my garage, I pull in and the bike is actually idling at 800 rpms, so I give it a little gas to shoot it back up to 6 or 7 thousand and again watch it drop to zero and die.
So does this sound like the same problem? I'm gonna try some fuel cleaner and then ride it around for a bit. My warrantee just expired last month, so i'm screwed there. Any help?
Sounds like that could be it. Next time it happens, try cycling the ignition switch off, then back on. That would usually clear it up on mine for a little while. It's tough to say it's the TPS without the check engine light coming on, though. That'll log a trouble code in the computer and tell you what the problem is.

Hate to say it, but it sounds exactly like the TPS Do the US bikes only have 12 months warranty?
Mine is playing up again since the 30K service (first TPS replaced at 18K). So far I've only got the early symptoms (low idle speed, jerky throttle response when going to/from fully closed), no stalling or MPG issues yet. The dealer have had a look, but because there are no fault codes stored they can't process a warranty claim They did increase the idle speed which has helped a lot, but I don't know for how long.
I'm not clear how the TPS actually works. A collegue said that certain Suzukis had TPS issues in the 90's and it was traced to the rubber between two parts perishing (due petrol vapour). I've seen reviews of the FZ6 that say it has a 'close coupled TPS' - can anyone here explain what that is and how it works??
