Yep, I am going to install #2. I am sick of dealing with Yamaha and their BS so I ordered one from Ron Ayers and am going to install it myself per instructions on the pdf service manual. This is another reason I am going to sell the FZ6 and buy an R1. I am sick of this TPS problem!!

Why would the TPS be different between an FZ6 and R1?

I can't answer that one but I have yet to read on the R1 forum about them having problems with it and then you look at our forum and we have at least ten threads about this with many posts within those threads. Makes you wonder, huh?

No there will not be a recall unless it is a safety issue - which stalling is not really a saftey issue... (no flames - think it through if you were Yamaha).
On to what I really wondered. Has anyone documented or noted any negative effects of not having the TPS changed out while it is malfunctioning? I have been having the TPS problem for a couple 1,000 miles now and the bikes performance is starting to get worse. The gas mileage is around 32mph and they bike reaks of gas fumes when on. I almost wonder if the erratic idle would cause all sorts of buildup from partial ignition in the chamber... wondered if anyone else had this problem? I keep moving every month or so and most often my bike is my only mode of trans. So... there has not been any time to take it to the dealer. I am taking it next week finally.

Mine got to the point that it would not idle when sitting still. I do not like having to rev my bike when at a traffic light.

Do any of you get code 15 turning on ignition?
I'm stepping up for my second TPS, first last year 7/20/04 @ 7800miles. Now I've been very intermittant since 22,000miles 4-5weeks. As of last weekend, it's several times every ride!
Difference this time is that every 4th or 5th time I turn on the ignition, I get a "15" where the miles are to show. I assume it's an error code? I don't remember it showing the first time around? I told the dealership, they were very informed about this problem. Head mechanic mentioned to Service desk guy, "Remember we have to report this to Yamaha, they're tracking this problem". They said the part would take a week unless I wanted to pick up the overnight fee (extended warranty) "screw that, I'll keep flicking the ignition and being embarrassed at lights and bring the bike back when you have the part". They agreed
I'm not sure where the manual pdf is, to look up the code? Anyone know off hand. Also I'm wondering if they will automatically re-sync the Th. bodies? Should I ask if they'll check the plugs, etc.? I tend not to trust dealership mechanics.
This is a pain, I buy Yamahas for reliability!

22,000 miles already and no other problems aside from the TPS?
Goes to show the bike is reliable 'cept for certain TPS. I think it's just a certain "lot" out of production of the part and you may have gotten a replacement from the same lot. I wonder where the tps for the FZ6 is made? China?
Hope this helps.--- Err 1

That's one of my reasons why I ride a Honda now. I have always heard of their dependability, and it shows. The TPS was getting on my nerves, and for me, it was a death trap. I couldn't imagine the engine dying mid-corner at a spirited pace. Forget that!
I've sacrificed comfort and practicality, but it was well worth the switch for me. At times, I do miss the FZ6, before the TPS issue. I hope the '05's aren't like that. And if they're not, why are they holding back on the '04 FZ6 owners of a well warranted recall???
Epee: how's your idle? I messed with my idle set screw a little, and raised the rpms and it helped a little when I had the Fizzer. Maybe the set screw spring tension is too loose? Just a guess.

I think we're the guinea pigs. They wanna learn more about the 04 models. One draw back of getting a new line of product. Bugs, bugs, bugs.......
Q: Is the TPS problem akin only to North American distribution?
Anyone know how many North American Fz6 owners are here and how many actually have TPS problems?

Recalls are merited by safety issuses... so... right now - Yamaha knows about the problem, but until someone dies or is seriously injured from this - I don't expect a recall. The same has been said by at least three Yamaha dealers I have asked. Anyway - all the TPS does is make for nasty idle/stall while stopped - I have yet to hear of an FZ6 stall at speed from the TPS.

Any motor stalling is a safety issue! First accident I hear caused by the TPS stalling, I'm filing a class action suit and make everyone here rich.
Anybody here on an Fz6 got rear ended sitting at the lights?
Anybody here on an Fz6 low sided doing a slow turn?
Anybody here stalled and held up traffic trying to reset the error?

Epee, 15 is the fault code for the TPS. They'll probably sync the throttle bodies, since replacement of the TPS calls for removing the throttle bodies. You could ask them to check the plugs, but they'll probably charge for it since it's not part of the TPS repair (and kind of a pain).
Edit: If I remember right, Hippie's bike stalled at speed while shifting from 5th to 6th.

Mine died once while exiting a highway, at speed ( approx 60 mph ). I just pulled in the clutch and the motor died. Very scary experience. Luckily it was just a up hill off-ramp. If it was a cloverleaf, I would've been screwed for sure.
Good questions segue00. Might want to start up a new thread to get a better count. Possibly a poll.
