FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
ok, here is the dilemma... it's time to upgrade and i've grown extremely partial to the FZ6. i've found 2 in my price range and i'm hoping some fz6 guru can help this decision along.
what are the differences between 05 and 06? all i can tell is the frame turns black in 06. is there a difference between the 2 clutches? the 05 i looked at seemed to have a much stiffer clutch than the 06. would that just be a result of 10k more miles on it?
Between the 05 and 06 I do not think there is any mechanical differences. The stiffer clutch on the 05 could be do to the cable needing to be lubed. But that is just my opinion. I would go for the 06 if it is about the same price
Stiff clutch could also be frayed cable. My clutch had been heavy for at least 2 years. Replaced the cable and now I know our bikes have a relatively light pull.
'05 to '06.... I think the brake calipers on the front may go from 2 piston sliders to 4 piston. Pretty sure the change was mid-year in '06.
^ is correct.
I'm pretty certain they changed fuel mapping too. The '06's pull a little better in the lower RPM's (so I've read).
'06 got rid of the digital tach too.
I think '06 they may have covered the steering head bearings with a seal of sorts. I've read of a lot of problems, but have had none myself...When I look at mine there's a disc that seems to seal them off from the outside.
No TPS issues with the 06 (TPS recall was for 04-05 models only, if I recall correctly). But this would be a non issue if the TPS on the 05 you're looking at has been replaced under the recall already.
"Yea, though I ride through the valley of the shadow of the Harley, I will fear no R.U.B.: For my FZ6 art with me; thy power, thy speed and thy handling they comfort me." -- Metrics 23:4
Differences between the 2 model years aren't worth considering. You should make your decision based on the condition, mileage and price.

Well, I know that it's only the '07 on when the computer set mapping was changed to give the model less "jerk" a management at lower RPM's. It didn't start with the '06 model.
Any way of fixing the "jerk" when just getting on the throttle without resorting to a power commander? Impossible to ride smoothly even though I try and have the throttle part open in the corners. Ready to sell the bike if I cannot resolve the problem.

did you buy this bike new? It may not be tuned properly... My 04 has never been jerky.

You may also want to increase the idle speed slightly, and see if that reduces the 'jerk' when you bring in the fuel. Mine's got it, in a very light fashion.... not enough to get angry about. It's reduced from there to alomst completely gone, with having hte idle speed set to about 1300 RPM.
