Default Power Commander or Tune Boy and are they worth it

I was talking to a m8 about the power commanders and tune boy.

TuneBoy Engine Management Systems - Comparison

Simply put are they worth it.? My bike is a standard 2004 fz6 thats been de'cat'd.
Ive no intention of fitting aftermarket pipes or anything, so would there be any real world benefits by fitting one of the above. I wouldnt say the flatish spot around 5k has not totally gone but is vastly improved, and the rev range feels far more linear through out now.

Obviously there are the cost implications as well. Neither the power commander or tune boy can be said to be cheap.

Im not looking at changing the fz6 for another year at the very least. The only bike out there that has the 'i want' appeal is the triumph st sprint and the 2009 colours are dire in my opinion.

Your thoughts and experiences please ???

Cheers Paul

If you aren't going to be making mods, I'd say no. I've got the TB for the Triumph...get to go "oh ah" when I get test the fan from my laptop...but since I am running stock...it was just a toy.

Now if you are going to make mods...that's a different story...

+1 basically pointless unless you do real work to the motor and have it dyno tuned as its meant for.

+1-- I've got scorpion slip ons, arrow cat eliminator pipe, K&n filter and power commander. First I had just the pipes and filter and the bike ran really rough. Over time I ended up buying the power commander. I'll be honest, I bought it used for $225 and I really wasnt impressed at all.

The maps I downloaded online just didnt do it for me at all; backfiring, rough idle, just not running the way the bike should. Then i got it dyno tuned by a certified dealer. It costed me $275; which if you look around is a bit overpriced but regardless, it was worth it.

All said and done, after the dyno tune with custom map its a whole new bike. I feel like i just bought a new bike.

Dont mean to be rude but from my experience; you just cant half ass it. If your gonna go PC, go all the way and get the custom map

A PCIII/tuneboy is really almost worthless unless you get a custom map.

Its really ALL ABOUT getting a custom map made for you at a good dyno shop.
