This goes for cars:

So if you don't like ABS, you're saying you've never locked up the tires in an emergency stop?
Even going in a straight line, locking up the tires = less braking friction.

What is your point? I do not like ABS, but I do not doubt its effectiveness. I just do not want it.

I ride a VFR with ABS and the linked brakes, and gotta tell ya it's saved my bacon a time or two. Not the sportiest system in the world, but rock solid and makes it safer to pile on the miles even though you're exhausted.

Can you give a quick overview of the linked brakes again? I can't remember exactly how they work...I know one brake lever activates both in a proportional fashion (like 60/40 f/r or something like that) and the other lets you use just one of the brakes....can't remember the details.

They're not all the same, but most of them activate both brakes with the front lever.

Honda is offering it as an option on most of their bikes next year, including the CBR1000 and CBR600. i suspect it will eventually catch on and people will come to expect it.

I think it could come in handy in a wet pavement, quick stop situation. Commuters will probably be the first to benefit. To the guy who said "don't jam on your brakes" - you must not ride on the street? In the presence of cars and animals and everything else that can cause you to HAVE to stop immediately? Or do you just do barrel right into it without even trying to stop...

Anyway, I think all the same debate occurred when ABS was new on cars. "Why would i trust this machine to do better than me".. Well, anyone who regularly drives on snow and ice loves ABS. Maybe the first iterations of it weren't all that great, but it sure works damn well now. It has saved my ass coming down hill on a completely glare ice hill with an intersection at the bottom many many times in the past...

just my 2 cents i guess
I have not been riding long enough to form an opinion yet, but I do know that the ABS option on the 2009 CBR600RR adds 22lbs extra weight and a little over $1000.00 to the price tag.

I intentionally locked up the rear brakes on a FJR to see what the ABS would do and it was similar to an automotive system -pumping sensation.

I wish I had ABS on my fz. Oh, and I don't ride a vfr or vstrom because they aren't made by yamaha.

I use both front and rear brakes so I am used to doing so. If I ever need 100% braking power, I will already have that tool in my belt. Heaven forbid you need to stop in 90 feet but your front brake alone requires 100ft.

ABS is like a thousand more isn't it? Is it really worth the extra price. I know some people who wouldn't even want ABS for free on their bikes.

Squeezing the front brake lever activates five out of six pistons in its front calipers and one of three pistons in the rear. Stomping on the rear brake pedal works the balance of the rear caliper's pistons and the sole front piston that isn't operated by the front-brake lever.

So that, combined with the ABS, makes it easy to stomp the rear brake lever and not worry about it locking up or coming around.

3 rear pistons? damn. The FZ only has 1.

And the rear is already more powerful than it needs to be....three piston rear calipers would be a total waste on the FZ6.

Not to steal the thread but I have also noticed how the cheap korean bikes like Jinlun have floor boards, back rests, luggage racks, etc fitted as standard.

All the things we have to go out and pay megga bucks for. Wouldn`t it be nice if a "regular" bike manufacturer would do that as well.

I will say that OEM accessories should be cheaper....the prices are insane. You ever price out hard luggage for a BMW? Holy hell man, you could buy a track bike AND a trailer for what it costs to put hard bags on a K1200.

When you get exhausted, the "safe" thing to do is stop.

Yes, but I'm sure we've all pushed it more than we should have at some point in our riding careers.
