I cannot comment on the bridgestone 020's on the USA bikes but have a look for a prefix on the tyre. The OEM 020's in the uk had a 'GG' prefix on the tyre and were specially develloped for the fz6.

My OEM rear did 7800miles. I believe the GG prefix is a bit harder compound.

Ive done nearly 3000 miles on the 021's and they are showing little signs of wear and were bloody fantastic in the Alps in Switzerland with a bike loaded down to the nines with camping gear.

The new 021's are vastly superior to the 020. In the wet or dry. I will buy the same again, but I recon there is easily another trip to Italy in these tyres so unless I get a really bad split in the tyre, I think it will be 2010 before I have to buy new rubber again. I generally do about 7500mile a year.

Mine cam e with Dunflops D252's. The rear is down to the wear indicators after only 2,200 miles. I do not ride it hard either. This is why I never buy Dunflops.

Hmmm....

So I guess it looks like:

BT016 - If you want about 5K-7K out of a tire with crazy good grip.

BT021 - If you want to get 10K or more, and still have more grip than the craptastic BT020s that come on the FZ6.

Hmmm....decisions, decisions...

This coming Saturday, October 25, Cycle Gear has a ridiculous sale on the new Bridgestone BT016's if you buy both in the package deal. You can't believe how cheap! Check the website!

This is the current deal, available now:

List Price:

$156.77 - $235.56
Your Price:

$124.99 - $184.99
You Save:

up to $50.57

Are you saying that its going to get even better than this? I can't find any other offers on this tire?

Plus, these prices are freaking crazy. I can buy a set of Qualifiers for less...they want $125 for the front tire and $165 for the REARS?????

Now check this out...Motorcycle Superstore has, as their NORMAL price on the BT016:

Front: $107

Rear: 180/55 - $143

So Motorcycle superstore is KILLING cyclegear's "great sale" with their normal prices.

I'm 3k mile on the stock 252's haven't gotten to the wear bars yet, their getting replaced this winter though, just not a confidence inspiring tire

Add both the tires and it reflects a total $100 discount. And the cyclegear deal is not that great as I explained in my 1st post. I got them for $230 shipped from tires-unlimited whereas at Cyclegear after taxes and handling you pay around $213 shipped.

I got almost 11,000 miles from the stock 020's. I replaced them with the 021's and got about the same. Replaced those with Diablo Supersports and just changed out the rear after about 6K. I love the Pirelli's,they have great grip in the corners but I don't get a lot of mileage out of them. I am thinking of going back with the 021's next time. 90% of my riding is commuting around town and work.

How would you compare edge grip between the 020 and 021?

I find the edge grip on the 020s to be truly abysmal.

I would not say that it is a drastic improvement or anything like that, but it was better. Of course the 021's are replacing the 020's. The 021's are a dual compound where the 020 is not. I think you can still buy the 020's, but you only save a few buck and who would want to.

The Pirelli Diablo's I went with were a big diffence on edge grip. I don't know I may stay with them. Softer compound wears faster. It's not that I can't afford to change my tires more often, it's just a pain to do it more often. I'm entertaining thoughts on other dual compound tire manufactures as well.

No complaints at all with the grip when well over. They do seem a fair bit grippier than the 020's, but not the condom soft rubber of the diablo's. They have sport touring written down the side of the tyre, and I recon that pretty much sums them up. A good all rounder.

Id have no hesitation buying them again.

I, like many other riders am pretty torn right now on what to do about tires.

I want more grip than the 020s....but I do NOT want to run tires that last less than 5K miles.

I guess the 021 would be a good choice, but if the 016 (or something else) will provide a lot more grip and still last between 5-6K miles...I'd be all over it.

In that case 016 is the right choice. Get into a cyclegear store and get them at $200 without paying the handling.

oh well i've got conti road attacks now and i like 'em, they feel better and wear better then sucky stock dunflops ...
