Default Poll: remove sidestand, center stand for track day?

OK I am preparing for my second track day on the FZ6. Well, it will be my third track day period (I have CA Superbike School next Saturday!), and I am hoping to complete the following:

* remove center stand (easy, 4 bolts and no sensor I think)
* remove side stand possibly
* safety wire some stuff
* Racetech springs (which I received today) and fork oil replacement
* bleed the brakes

So I need some help on the side stand question. I have a universal rear stand which does not require spools (since the 07s at least do not have a place to mount spools). And I will be going with a group, who will hopefully indulge me and help me prop up the bike in between each session. Normally, you can do this solo using your sidestand w/ a little block of wood under it.

When you remove the side stand, do you have to put a paperclip or something in to jump the sidestand sensor?

I want to remove the side stand, I think, because I am afraid of it levering me off the ground a-la-thatguyx:

Thatguy went down...

Now, I have the stock pegs/rearsets so I think this would be less of an issue for me, but I really don't want to crash. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Also, I want to thank mbodell who has graciously answered like 10,000 Racetech installation questions for me. Good man.

the sensor on the kickstand is deactivated when you take the stand off. just do it and you'll see what i mean. i just zip-tie it to the bolt holes too. i find it to be a pain in the ass without a pit bitch to have to hold the bike and locate the rear stand though. well its not too bad as long as nobody moved it from where you left it or its out of reach for some reason.
the kickstand wont lever you off though, a few of us have scraped it to hell and back along with the pegs.
usually you dont need to saftey wire anything unless you're in the A group around here. but its not hard to do with a drill press. the drain bolt is actually real soft and a new bit will melt through it. actually the plastic fill cap was harder to drill than the drain bolt.

My sidestand is worn and loose enough to where if it touched down it would probably give an inch or so. The centerstand touching would definitely bring someone down though.

ive dragged my stand to hell and back - even the pivot bracket that bolts onto the frame - ive dragged that as well, the center stand has never touched down for me, on the my first track day last weekend i never had a problem with either stand or center stand, i do however have a ohlins rear shock which i dunno but has made the bike stiffer, more straight line accuracy and easier/quicker turn in, somehow i think the stiffer rear shock has less compression in turns and doesnt allow the swingarm to compress as much as it did with the OEM shock.

Are you gonna go fast OR do you simply want piece of mind? If yes to either, remove both. WIth high/back rearsets, it's a must. with the stock pegs like you said, maybe not a performance issue on every lap but the "what if" scenario is still there. It's 2 frickin' bolts and a zip tie.

You can put it on the rear-stand yourself and without any kick-stand to help you. Just toss it in place. walk your way back so you're holding the bike by the grab rails and then use one hand to get it in position. once their is upward tension on the swingarm, the bike won't move. you can then just lever it into position and you're done. basically, just try and do it yourself and you'll quickly find that it can be done.

for drilling the basics on our bike you won't need a press. you can drill the oil drain bolt through the corner (nick it) while it's on the bike. you can drill the filler cap and dipstick while on the bike and both are plastic. for the oil filter, all you need is a hose clamp.

FZ6 safety wire pictures etc.

personally i dont see any point in removing the center stand off the bike for anything other than weight purposes... unless you have aftermarket rearsets then you wont get that far over to have it touch the ground without running out of tire first... and of course the sidestand will touch down in left handers... so you can remove them both for comfort if you have race stands... or just the sidestand and use the center stand which i have done until i get my race stands then ill remove them both... which will be the next time im at the track...
