I've used both a homeade manometer, and the carbtune. Naturally, I prefer the carbtune, but the homeade version did work. You still need a vacuum gauge in order to use the homeade version, but not for the carbtune. It is a good tool to have for those that don't mind spending money on tools. I've made good use out of mine, mostly on other peoples bikes.

Oh, and I bought mine used, so it was an even better deal.

By "just as well" I would expect:

Same accuracy.

Same precision.

Same ease of use.

Same durability.

If you can really build one for $15 that has all of these same traits, that is great. Personally, I have looked at a lot of the home made designs and the ones I have seen appear to have some disadvantages compared to the store bought model.

However, the question is whether or not those differences are worth the $85 difference in price.

I think community tools would disappear faster than virtue on prom night. We would need a Tool Enforcer who would come to your house and throw rotten eggs at the window if you kept it too long, or maybe come specially appointed vigilante group who could do the job worldwide; something like X Men meets The Punisher, only not so gay

I have borrowed my m8s carbtune setup before. Very accurate. I had some dynowork done on a 650 Transalp, and the guy put it on his very expensive setup and my carbs showed they were all in sync.

Its a good product.

Hay everyone, I spoke to Morgan today and unfortunately he will only be able to accept a single payment for all the units we want. The savings would have been £4.90 for the unit by itself and £5.40 for the unit and pouch...

Because I'm a student I can't possibly do this so the discount is a no go.

I still think its a good unit to buy even if it costs the full price. So whoever is interested in the unit you can order it right away yourselves but there will be no discount.

I'm sorry for all that, he has had bad experiences in the past with a group order where only one of the people ordered and they got the discount on the basis that more then 10 would so I understand his position.
