FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
Hey all. Had my 2nd TD yesterday. It was on Thunderbolt at New Jersey Motorsports Park. I used the first session to figure out the track and get comfortable with it. The track is very technical with elevation changes. It was a blast. The 2nd session I picked up the pace, but blew a turn (turn 5, 2nd chicane) and almost went off the track. I took this as a sign to slow down and focus on my apexes. Third session I went out and made sure to hit my apexes as best I could. About 4 laps into the session, I crashed. I turned in too late, but still aimed for the apex on a left turn #8 (it's a clockwise track).
I was leaned over pretty hard, but I'm sure I had some tire left. But right around the apex cone i I gear SCRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPE. But it wasn't the sweet sound of a knee puck (which I had gotten used to on the first 2 sessions). Instead that metal scrape was followed by me sliding down the track and then onto the dirt. I think I was really low because it didn't feel like I fell far. I slid a good 15-20 feet on the track and then tumbled 30-40 feet on the dirt. Here's the culprit...
Only snapped a few pics of the bike after the crash...
Not too bad eh? Did I mention it was a left hander low side?
The frame is cracked by the slider, so I hope insurance totals it. The bike was awesome to me. I will surely miss it.

My leathers did a great job. The pants heled up great, just the stitching for the velcro patches started to come off. The left elbow also wore a hole, but the CE armor took anything more. I dont think any vital seems burst.
One more sad parting shop on the bike...
Oh and me you ask? I'm pretty much fine except...
Sigh. Surgery tomorrow for some pins and rods. After that I'll be dealing with insurance, to see what about the bike.
The bike is thrashed, my hand is busted... but I walked away. I had a great time and can't wait to get back on a bike and the track.
I dont have vids of the crash, but I have some from the first two sessions. Let me learn to edit them and i'll try to post later.

Oh man! I am so sorry to hear that. Good thing you low sided. That side stand could have stood you up and pitched you highside, ouch.
Ouch...that took a toll, could have been worse I'm sure. won't the pegs hit ground before the side stand would? The ability to get low enough for the sidestand to scrape amazes me...unless it hit the raised apex?
Good luck with insurance...hope you have coverage for track use.
+3 on the hand thing... I was looking at your xrays bone by bone... "that looks fine, that one looks fine, that one's ok,that one's...oooohhhhhhhh!!! OOOHHHH!!!"
Coming from someone who broke thier hand last year and it still hasn't healed right: good luck, and I feel your pain!
i stared at that xray for a while and then was like holy crap! Good luck on the recovery and getting your bike paid for!

I'm not feeling it. Sorry, but a buddist in the family doesn't make you open-minded. It just means you're bangin' a buddist.
