Default Matisse Lower Kit, Install, Make my Own?

Here is the link from the FZ6 Forum, someone ordered the Matisse Kit and installed it.

Metisse lowering kit - Yamaha FZ6 Forums - International FZ6 Motorcycle Community Forum

I have attached two pics of the kit. All you get is a shorter eye that mount to the end of the shock. The shock needs to be removed and the original eye (mounting hole) needs to be unscrewed, the new one screwed on.

Like the orig poster said, if he know thats all he was going to get for $180 he may have made one or cut and tapped the original.

What do you think about that? Making one or cutting the original and re-tapping it?

Thanks
Rc

since i've seen so many butchered home tapping jobs, i would at least take that part to a machine shop and have them do it. it'd still cost you, but at least it would be a high quality job and not prone to issues later on. it's a rather important piece.
otherwise i can't see why chopping the original shorter woldn't work.

To go one step further a turn buckle concept would give it infinate adjustment and would be worth an couple hundred to make it.

well of course i would make my own, $180 is way too much. interesting though i had no idea you could unscrew the piece of the shock. ive had it in a bench vise twisting on it trying to get the the spring off and it never seemed like it was unscrewing.
im wondering how you're going to get the bearings in the new one too.

Definitely not worth $180. You could have a machine shop make it for about $50, give or take for material cost.

Mod the original. I'm going to try it this winter.
