Default FZ6 - Z1000 comparison

Ok, many of you know I sported a 2006 FZ6 for a bit, crashed it, a 2007 FZ6 followed and it's also been crashed. I then went out and got a 2008 Kawiaski Z1000.

Here's my comparision of the 2007 FZ6 to the 2008 Z1000, from a guy who rides pretty much like a bat out of hell in the twisties, and fast but not stupid in the city. I am a two-wheels on the ground type of guy too.

1. FZ6 gets better gas millage.
2. FZ6 has way better comfort. I am even thinking about buying a Corbin seat for the Z1000 since the stock seat is so terrible, and I never thought of replacing the FZ6 stock seat.
3. Z1000 has way more power... and I mean WAY more. Almost, (dare I say)... too much.
4. The suspension on the Z1000 is much tighter that the FZ6. This means better stability in the corners, but you also feel alot of bumps and imperfections in the road too. This is sort of a personal preference thing. I call it a win for the Z1000 even though I like things about both suspensions, the Z1000 is fully adjustable (not that I ever would think of adjusting it).
5. Z1000 wins hands down in the looks category, I hate the partial fairing on the FZ6 and wanted a truly naked bike.
6. FZ6 wins in manuverability at slow speeds but not by much. The Z1000 is surprisingly manuverable at slow "gas station" speeds.
7. Twisties overall...this remains to be seen. I have ridden the canyons plenty of times on the Z1000, but not yet with any decent tires. I remember I thought the FZ6 handled like shit too until I threw a set of Pirelli Diablo Stradas on it. This being said... next week I ditch the dunlops on the Z1000 and get a set of Pirellis.

Conclusion:
Right now the handling in the tight twisties on the Z1000 has me a bit disappointed, and the comfort is really bugging me after 100 miles or so. We'll see if my opinion changes after I get a Corbin seat, and new tires.

If I had it to do over... I would have not bought the Z1000 for $8000 and I would of instead bought a new black 2008 FZ6 and threw a $1000 in exhaust, pazzos, and decent tires on it.

Thanks for the info - I always liked the Z1000. I suggest an alternative to Corbin due to my dissapointment with the FZ6 Corbin (slippery, sloped and hard foam). Keep us posted.

It would look so much better with an underseat exhaust...

How does the Z1000 look on it's side?

The big score: anyone, any sex, over 75 years old has been upped to 100 points.

Z1000 doesn't have fully adjustable front suspension I think and to some extent it sucks. I've been following the Z forums a lot and I think the most common mod is to swap out with ZX6R forks and shocks.

And ditch that heavy exhaust. You can strap on some IXILs that actually look like underseat exhausts.

I was hoping for a funny comeback but I guess that'll do.

The 03-06 Z's had troublesome suspension which are frequently swapped out. You won't find those same complaints for the newer 07-08's since they are indeed adjustable.

So let me get this straight... You wreck 2 FZ6s in the less than 2 years and so logic dictates you go out a buy a more powerful bike? All I have to say is try not to kill yourself....

Nice write-up.

I sold the R1 so I was considering that.

Sold an R1?? Sacrilege!

The R1 is Actually comfortable, and insanely powerful. Some day my skills and bank account may allow it.

The FZ6 I rode felt like shit after my 650R. Just gutless- all wind up and no go. Weird stretched out upright ergoes, and mushy suspension.

650R is not different, infact worse suspension. It has got good grunt low down but FZ6 will smoke it anyway. I4s rock!! V-twins are great too but not much top end.
