1 thing, though. I now have a noticeable speed-related whine that wasn't there before, I'm thinking that it's due to the non-rubber-isolated sprocket (Vortex not available, so I grabbed a Sun), wondering it anyone else has experienced this?
Yeah I do have something similar. It appears around 5250 rpm - 5750 rpm which is like a vibrating metal sound. I'm pretty sure it's due to the missing rubber on the sprocket...

Yes there is a noticable diffrence in the sound as the chain is no longer contacting the rubber bumper. It also may be touching more on the chain guide at the front of the swing arm because it is now running down to a smaller sprocket diameter. After a few days it will sound normal again as you get used to it.
Hey thanks!

I'm hoping it will settle down soon as well... Guess I'm just over-listening after the change hehe...

Honestly it's like saying you put new grips on and now the bike responds to the throttle much quicker.

However I do think this is one of the best how tos I've seen on the website.
Hehe yeah I totally see your point! Guess if I buy a new helmet with better aerodynamics my bike will accelerate faster too

But you do have a point hehe... my best tip is to try it and see how it feels

its only like 20 bucks now go do it.
That sounds reasonable... the bike does like the high rpms... +1 on not having to gear way down and do a WOT to get some real acceleration

does anyone have any suggestions or links on how to get the chain slack adjusted correctly, and how to make sure the rear tire is correctly aligned. I herd from the dealer that my sprocket is in, so I am gonna do it today, but adjusting the chain is the only thing that has me nervious
thanks,
Jim

Hello everyone,

I ride a 2007 FZ6 and was thinking about doing this mod. Would the 15t sprocket be the right on for 2007? Also is the front sprocket enough change to utilize the rpm in our bike or should we add teeth to the rear sprocket as well. Sounds to me do the front first and see what it feels like. How much do you loose of the top end is it even noticeable.

I had another person get on the back brake. It might also be helpful to have the bike on the sidestand (so that there's some weight on the back tire).

It's probably not the best idea to have the bike in gear when you're doing that.

I got it off, I put a broom stick through the tire and against the swing arm to stop it from rotating. I used a torque wrench to get it off, and with the rust and stuff, it took almost 140 pounds to get it off. I'll post about my impressions in a bit

Hmm I had the bike on the centerstand and put the bike in gear. Worked fine for me... but maybe having another person standing on the rear brake while on sidestand would also work. I was alone so it was my only option

Makes sense. Thanks!!

I put mine on center stand/in gear and stood on the rear break while leaned over the seat to get the nut off.

This is how I did mine.

1. Stand on the right side of the bike.
2. Lean over to the left side (with your belly on top of the seat)
3. Step your left foot on the rear brake pedal. This is so the rear wheel won't move.
4. Use both hands and loose the sprocket nut.

By far the easiest thing is an impact wrench. If you can find someone with one of these, they can spin the nut off in like .2 seconds. Put it on the centerstand so it doesn't roll off and crash into something

This thread inspired me to order a vortex 15t front from kneedraggers.com! Hopefully it gets here mid week so I can try it out over the next weekend's long ride!
