What the hell, man? Stop destroying beautiful motorcycles! Oh, and watch out for Asian women, I thought it was always a stereotype, but it seems to fit.

OI, david, glad to hear you're alright... i just saw this thread now... scary stuff buddy.. I cant believe this happened... actually i can, but it still sucks balls!

I just finished reading TWO reviews in a row about the 848 saying its a great track bike (but not the best suspension) and a terribly uncomfortable streetbike... and this is from reviewers who consider a GSX-R to be comfy... go with the triumph!

Default Dang....

Wow, I'm glad that you came out of that okay. Those situations suck and there's usually not much you can do when faced with a crazy, unpredictable driver.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I lived in Tempe, AZ back in 1998. I had just pulled out of my apartment complex and was headed down a six lane road (three lanes both directions and a center turning lane) on my Katana 750. I was also 29. Hmmmm.

Check the streetview:
3394 S McClintock Dr, Tempe, Maricopa, Arizona 85283, United States - Google Maps

I saw a car on the left side of the road leaving a business. It was an older lady driving and she started straight across the other lanes. I started slowing down, but figured that I didn't have much to worry about, since there was a center turning lane and three lanes in my direction too. Long story short, she decided to go straight across the entire road to a business on my side and never saw me.... I was almost stopped when we made contact, and my can-o-tuna just glanced off of the side of her car. Somehow, I was off of the bike and I still don't know how that happened. I had no injuries and the kat just had busted up mirrors and some cracked plastic.

Slowing down does seem to minimize the damage potential and I got lucky in my case. I could have just as easily accelerated again like you did.

Now that I have children, I think about the consequences of riding more, but I can't give it up as it's such a part of me.

Trying having a kid and being widower! I feel guilt every time I ride. I keep my riding to the back country roads near my house. I still ride because it makes me still feel alive. When my daughter turns 18 I am going to load up the bike and go on a nice long trip to anywhere!

Glad you are OK. Considering the law of averages seems like you would have all the wrecks done and over with. So is it v4.0 for a track bike?

Wow, I am so relieved that you are okay.

BUT when presented with someone driving in an erratic manner, you make assumptions about what they are going to do next?!! YOUCH! I guess we can all learn from where that strategy gets us!

As I said I am relieved to learn that you are okay, but your judgement on this occasion, on a defensive riding basis, sucked!

I haven't had my ass toasted online for some time, so folks flame on, but at least can we learn from Wavex's crash here?

cheers ....kimbo

Thanks Kimbo. While I'm glad the dude's alright and feels good about it all but where are the flames for Waveman.

I got into a bunch of trouble for defending some over zealous chick on a GSXR1000 a little while ago and now someones done something similar and its all hugs and kisses.

Sorry, where I'm from it I'd get a kick in the ass and a "time to pull your head in son".

Yes we all know people drive cars like they don't give a shit. But that is why we have to ride like we do - especially if we can see them trying to pull fancy crap right in front of us.

No disrespect Wavemate - this is more directed at those who think it was entirely the lady's fault. We all screw up some times.

Well I'm glad your ok.
I don't know if I responded to your crash thread... part two.

Now here we are... crash thread part three?
It is time to recalibrate your shit magnet wavex.

I would lay off the bikes for a while and do some MORE meditating.
NOT just a little thinking... But some real deep level, shit re-calibration,
MEDITATION.

This would be your fourth bike? If you get another? (sorry, when you get another)

I guess I won't be part of the group hug.
I am very happy you are alright.

Whisper, you got multiple "PM's" re: this thread???? That's gotta be a fairly unique situation...did a bell go off in your head?

The "group hug" cliche is getting so old. Say what you want to say but don't be a troll about it. If you want to help others it will show...if you want attention, it will show.

You'd put failing to save your ass in the city via defensive driving (2 vehicles) and pushing it beyond your skill level on public twisty heavily trafficed roads (1 vehicle) in the same boat? I wouldn't call them "similar" at all. I'd lump the GSXR w/ the Benz...they both put others at risk by messing up.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't feel comfortable suggesting what he or anyone else could have done differently in most traffic accidents because I have not done any cosiderable city riding for some time now...and I'm not a real student of it at this point....and there isn't a video

Lastly, I think everyone is primarily concerned for Wavex and his family...looking forward. That coupled with the fact that he didn't claim ZERO FAULT and the fact that he is so open leads to the responses you see. Perhaps this forum needs one big thread dicsussing defensive driving and various scenarios or something....I don't know and I won't be the one to start it.

I've to admit that when I used to see Dave's videos I always felt that he rode a little bit on the edge taking more risks and being a little rash. I could always see that his form was not right in those canyon carving videos where he constantly crossed the yellow and white lines on the either sides of the road. Sorry to be flaming but I always refrained to voice my opinion on his riding before. Flame me all you want.

I still think it is 100% lady's fault as it is like a car-pedestrian situation where cars should always watch for bikers in addition to cyclists and pedestrians.

David - In order to get the situational image imprinted in my brain, I was thinking more about your scenario. What happened to the car to the right of you that blocked that escape route? Would they have broadsided the woman if she didn't move forward? Meaning she didn't see the car either? Or was the car already slowing down?

I do a lot of Boston riding and one thing is for sure - cars always try to force their way onto cross streets, and don't care if they slow the right of way traffic down. Peds too. In this circumstance I've also seen it where the car in one lane of a multiple lane road waves the crossing car through, leaving vehicles in the other lane in a potentially precarious position if the crossing driver is not thinking. Completely screws with roadway consistency.

are you talking about the twisty road vids? if so, what does that have to do with this? Hasn't everyone been telling him to go to the track and take it easy on those twisty roads? I would assume the experienced people he rides with have also talked to him about this and talked to him about technique etc. etc.

Traffic is a whole other game...it's about "protecting yourself" as opposed to "not hurting yourself or others".

In the future, use some judgement but don't "refrain" just because that is what everyone else is doing or b/c you like someone.
