FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
The XBs are pretty low maintenance. Only things that ever need adjusting on the motor would be the primary chain, changing the engine oil, changing the tranny oil, and making sure the clutch is adjusted properly. All of this comes around every 5000 miles on the 08-09 Buell XB models. All of that is simple to do too. They really worked hard on the XB models to try and make them as low maintenance as they possibly could.
The 03-09 xb motors are pretty solid. I know the old tubers and such had issues, like leaking oil and all, and high maintenance. Several people have tens of thousands of miles on thier XBs though without a single issue.
The Fuel-in-Frame issue isnt really an issue if in a crash. All newer models come with the frame pucks already on them. They fit directly on the frame at its widest points. They are made of a rubber/plastic material, with styrofoam behind them, and absorb impacts from falls REALLY well. If they need replacement after a crash, they cost around $50 for a set. Invest in some front and rear axle sliders, and your all set. I looked at 2 Buells that went down on Saturday at the track. Both of them had the frame pucks, and axle sliders on them. Those parts, and the brake levers, clutch lever, pegs, and shifter were the only parts damaged in the crashes. Cheap parts to replace too.

Sounds like Buell has really gotten its act together, which is great, because I always loved that they were a truly unique voice in the all too homogenous sportbike market.
Yea, the XB line was a great step forward for them. The only thing that kinda set them back with them was the transmissions. For a sportbike, they are clunky. The 08 1125R I feel was a step backward. It gave the impression of releasing a bike before it was 100% ready for the sales floor. I have talked to several people that dislike them due to running really rough, getting too hot, poor performance. I even testrode one, and it gave me the impression of an unfinished product. Top it all off with the somewhat goofy look of the bike, and it just kinda turns people away from the name Buell.
09 looks like its going to be a good year for Buell. They have updated the 1125R to help alleviate several of the issues, including increasing the gas mileage of it. The 09 air cooled line should have its little fuel mileage bugs worked out of the new DDFI3 system. The 1125CR rounds off the lineup, giving plenty of options for any style rider to give Buell a look as a future purchase. I really hope it turns out to be good, and no new bugs. If it does, I have a feeling Buells wont be looked down upon as the read headed stepchild so much anymore.

I know that's not what you're looking for wavex, I just had to post it. $18,500 for an R7 is a sweet deal. I wish I had an extra 18,000 bucks laying around.
