FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
That's quite the lean angle!! He must have race slicks. It's obviously his track bike made just barely legal
What's really amazing is look how little he's even hanging off... some guys hang way off the bike and the bike is near vertical, this is really pushing the limits of traction!
it's incredible what you can do now with ~10k invested and some good rubber and suspension setup!
So Moldmaker, rg-one and myself met up today at the Triumph/Ducati dealer to have some fun...
I originally wanted to test ride the Speed and/or Street Triple, and while they had both bikes there, they would not let me test ride them they most likely lost a customer because I don`t want to drop $10k on a bike without knowing how it feels on the road.
I did manage to get a test ride on a beautiful red Ducati 848 (thanks rg for being the guide through the twisties, I think we were out for a little more than the 20min max allowed by the dealership ), and that was quite amazing... the motor is GREAT, and unless you try to go WOT in 5th gear while riding at 30mph, the bike has power everywhere... the suspension felt planted at all times, and the bike handled really nicely in the canyons... my only complaints: the mirrors suck, my hand would hit the fairing at full turn, and I really cannot see myself spend more than an hour on the bike... it is comfortable overall, but it's an SS bike which is definitely not for me. Doing city riding or long days would just be a major PITA for me.
I also test rode the new Ducati Monster 696 and it was funny how that bike immediately felt like I was at home sitting on it... night and day compared to the 848 (obviously), and its ergos reminded me of my good old deceased FZ... ()... anyway, right away it confirmed this was my type of bike... overall the short ride was great and the bike felt really flickable and nice... I was surprised at how planted it felt in low speed 90 degree turns... again really nice, but I did not fall in love with it.
Then we headed to the Buell dealership where I wanted to ride the XB9/XB12... again there they did not want to let me ride the bike without a signature on the contract... BUT, the Buell national tour is stopping by in a couple of weeks (10min from my house) and they`ll let anyone test ride any of their bikes during that weekend, so I think that`ll be the day I buy my new bike (if the ride goes well of course).
I can`t wait... after taking everything into consideration, this will most certainly be my next bike (thanks John, Jason, & Randomchaos for all the help):
Bleh thats some crappy dealership service right there. I hate dealerships that wont let you testride a bike when you show them you are seriously considering one.

Yeah what's funny is that I was seriously considering buying the Triumph (and they knew that), but could not get a test ride, and on the other hand I knew I wasn`t going to buy a Ducati, but yet they let me ride them
That dealer is always really good (SoCal Triumph Ducati Victory), I'm surprised they didn't have demo Trumpets, last time I was there they had a D675, Speed Triple, and Sprint ST. I think they just had sold out of them and didn't have enough to have another demo bike. Especially the Street, they had the only '09 in the US! (or so they claim)
Anyway, was fun man, cant wait till you get your bike so we can hit the canyons again. The Monster feels awesome now too (went down a tooth in front) and I took the fairing off too when I got home
bringing up the rear here, glad to hear you're bullet proof and should change to 'The Cat' which leaves you 6 more. Did you check the Brutale? I'm either that or the Speed Triple...

Thanks!
At more than $17k OTD for the Brutale, it is out of my budget. The Speed/Street triples were the main competition for the Buell, but overall my heart is set on the XB9SX...
The reasons:
- I want my next bike to have all the torque down low in rpms, and the Buell delivers just that with its v-twin.
- I prefer the look of the Buell.
- The Buell's tiny package, short wheel base and technological perks (fuel in frame, oil in swing arm, awesome brakes, belt drive, low maintenance, adjustable suspension...) make it very unique, and it just fits me perfectly.
For those interested, here's an old review which also helped me make my decision... http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs...2005-14282.htm
Everything they say about the Buell in there seems to -again- fit me and the type of riding I do... + all the bad stuff they say about it seem to have been fixed by Buell since then!

So getting a new one? How much OTD are they running for? Maybe you post a nice long term review after you get it and that makes me change my mind from getting a FZ1/Z1000/Speed Triple to the Buell. I love their looks.

hehe I will do for sure did you read that review above?
I want an '09, because of the blacked out frame + front forks... with the blue tank and wheels it just looks amazing imo.
I was quoted $10,200.00 OTD on Saturday for a brand new '08 in blue... the '09 price should be about the same since MSRP is $8,895.00
However, since the Buell national tour is stopping by, I hope they`ll want to push the bikes out the door and drop their prices... we shall see
The price above was not negotiated at all... I am sure they would have sold it to me at $9,900 OTD.
1) I don't know if they improved this, but the buell motors used to be fairly high maintenance. I know mine was in the shop at least 4 times in two years, for problems that I could not diagnose, let alone fix.
2) The Fuel-in-Frame thing sounds really cool, until the first time you drop the bike and damage the frame/tank. I would think *seriously* about getting very low deductible, full coverage for a bike like this.
Overall, I LOVE the riding experience of a buell, but I didn't like the ownership experience at all (Buell labor costs are high, mine was brand new and still plagued with problems).
