FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
Actually, I almost bought the bike Wavex is looking at (the XB9SX), but once I figured out how I'd have to finance the buell but could buy the FZ6 outright, I went with the obvious choice.
I dunno what I would do now if I ended up riding the buell with such a boring motor. I rode a blast for the MSF and if the XB9 shook and rode 1/100th as terrible as those pieces of crap then I would have ended up getting rid of it by now.
I'm only dissing the XBs because they seem like a downgrade from Wavex's previous bike.
I vote a STREET triple or Speed triple, Aprilia Shiver, or Z1000. I have rode an XB9 and I am not a fan. They handle funny, they vibrate like a mother, they are underpowered, they are overpriced, and they are air cooled. Couple that with their heavy cruiser engine shy of some top end improvements, and you have a losing formula.
They do look cool, but after 200 miles on one with a Jardine Exhaust, thats all they do.
Wow David!
Glad you're okay man. Since I know you're okay;
YOU BROKE MY FZ TOO YOU PUNK!
Too many loony toons on the roads man. Glad you're okay.
Thanks Mani Sorry about your bike
About the Buell comments, I am planning to test ride one soon and I`ll see for myself if I like it or not. I will also try the XB12, which I am looking at as well of course. I am not necessarily looking for a machine that will outperform the FZ... I don`t think my motorcycle record would recommend that anyway.
What I am looking for is something with torque down low, that I will have fun riding in the city, and in the twisties... a killer "clean" streetfighter look and state of the art technology on top of it helps a lot too
For the record:
HP:
FZ6: 96 HP 12000 RPM
XB9: 92 HP @ 7500 RPM
XB12: 103 HP @ 6800 RPM
Street Triple: 106 HP @ 11,700 RPM
Torque:
FZ6: 46.5 ft-lb @ 10,000 rpm
XB9: 70 ft. lbs. @ 5500 RPM
XB12: 84 ft. lbs. @ 6000 RPM
Street Triple: 51 lb. fts. @ 11,700 RPM
I 've never ridden this bike, but if I was about to buy a new bike, this would be an option....Nothing looks like the Benelli cafe racer....Love the looks, but I know nothing more about it
There is nothing state of the art about a harley pushrod v-twin motor
They have all those nice state of the art innovations like oil in the swingarm, fuel in frame, under slung exhaust and then it's all nulled out by the same old air cooled engine. The only Buell I would even consider purchasing would be the 1125R.

David, have you seen the new 1125CR they just released? It's a streetfighter-ish version of the 1125R. It still has that huge ugly intake on the front, but at least it has a nice modern Rotax engine and looks otherwise like the XB series.

Now that looks like a fun bike, the 1125CR is definitely a step in the right direction for Buell, but so was telling Harley to pound sand and branching out on their own.
As for the XB9 series OP:
Remember that on an air cooled bike the power rating is at a low ambient temp. That Buell being air cooled the hotter it gets, the less power it has. It gets 110+ here in the summer which makes that bike damn near unrideable between heat coming off the engine and the massive power loss at high temps. Again I rode several hundred miles on one when it was between 50 deg F and 100+ deg F.
If you want "State of the Art" look to the 1125CR, or the triumphs and Aprillias, not the XB9SX.

The 2009 STREET TRIPLE R will have fully adjustable suspension and better brakes. It's not replacing the Street Triple but will be an option for those wanting better susp. & brakes.
Pricing is supposed to fall between the standard Street and Daytona. It looks like I'll be selling the Mazda next year- I need one of these bikes.

As the cars roar into Pennsylvania, the cradle of liberty, it seems apparent that our citizens are staying off the streets, which may make scoring particularly difficult, even with this year's rule changes. To recap those revisions: women are still worth 10 points more than men in all age brackets, but teenagers now rack up 40 points, and toddlers under 12 now rate a big 70 points. The big score: anyone, any sex, over 75 years old has been upped to 100 points.

Indeed, these innovations are what I was referring to... along with the belt drive, low maintenance costs, lowered center of gravity (thanks to the low exhaust + fuel in frame)...
What's so bad about an air cooled engine? I`ve ridden air cooled v-twins in the past and loved them (conf rg-one's Ducati).
I personally don`t care how it is cooled, as long as it is fun and torquy... plus no ugly ass big radiator in the front...
I understand that most of you guys wouldn`t go for an XB, and that's fine! I have weird tastes...
Again I am going to test ride both the XB9 & XB12 soon and see if I like the ergos and engine... if I do, that'll be my next bike.
This is an XB12... the new model has a black frame + front forks + sub-frame...

make sure you get really really good earplugs if you get an aftermarket exhaust. Guy who doesnt get on here much made me about def with his exhaust on his xb12. It echoed in my helmet from 4 bikes back on a group ride.
