Default Early 4th of July Malibu ride

For the So Cal clan, I'll be starting at the base of Las Flores Canyon / PCH at about 9:15 - 9:30. There's a little elementary school about a mile or so up the road from PCH on the right/east side of the street ... I'll be in the little parking lot there, departing at about 9:30. I gotta be back home in the South Bay by 1:00.

I'm not a slow rider per se, but I do keep it to within 10 and usually more like 5 or right at the speed limit. Too many random factors in Malibu to push the speed limit too much, not to mention I don't want or need a ticket right now. If you like to ride faster, I'll catch up with you at some point ... don't worry about me!

Hope to see some of you out. I'll be wearing either this:

(minus the blue jersey)

or this:

Hope to see you guys out! PM me if you want my cell #

It sounds great but I can't make it. My tires are down to the wear bars and I won't ride the twisties with worn hoops. Be careful, there were 2 fatalities up there last Saturday..

There is another FZ6 group ride set for Saturday the 12th, maybe you can join us.

Do you know where the fatalities occurred, or under what circumstances? Any links to other ... resources?

One was on Mulholland just north of Leo Carillo beach, the other was in one of the tunnels on Kanan. This is second hand news from a fellow rider so I don't have any other details.

Well it was hot up there but fun! No gravel to speak of, and the car guys weren't out yet ... at least over on the east end of things.

I did take off to head back home around 11:15 or so. It's true, the only time to REALLY ride Malibu/Santa Monica Mountains is early in the AM. Too many douchebags (cages, performance cages, motorcycles, trucks & SUVs, you name it) show up in the late morning/lunchtime.

I took like one picture, I'll have to see if it's any good.
