Boeing uses Helicoils. I will trust their specifications over some "johnny come lately"...

Since this topic comes up every few months on here, I usually suggest the easy repair kit that they make for this purpose. It's a custom oil drain plug that's slightly larger and has self-tapping threads. Motormite and Dorman make them and I have posted the part number and info before.

I'd suggest that you search the forum for the part number, but I just did and I can't find anything. Why does the SBN search function rarely work for me. I'm sure that I posted a thread with motormite in it, but when I search for motormite (or dorman) I get nothing....

Here are some of them:

yes try a time-sert or also called a key insert. if you have a fastener place around they will carry them.

I definitely won't be riding again until it's fixed.

Here's a link to a distributor of Keenserts;
Keenserts® Keylocking Thread Inserts

We use these at work as well and I think they have a slightly larger wall thickness than the Helicoils.

I'll check these out as well

Next Question...What size insert should I be using, either for Helicoil or Kennserts??

You get the size that matches to size and pitch of the drain bolt.

The ID size of the insert should match your drain plug. The OD size will be determined by the brand of insert you choose.

Torque wrenches are not a good idea on oil drain plugs. It's asking for trouble. Snug tight with a short handled wrench is good enough.
