It ain't easy, but it's possible. Hell, even putzing around in VT below 65mph, I average in the mid/high 50's. Granted, hogging it out drops that figure into the low 40's, but still.

I average in the mid/high 50's as well... never been able to break the 60MPG zone though (I actually own the very same license plate backing from Aerostich, except I have the more truthful 50MPG one

). But I also haven't tried cutting the engine and coasting down hills either. Necessity is the mother of invention
