First Ride Of 2008, New battery don't fit, what tire pressure?
I just got home from my first ride of the year
I was so excited, I wanted to try out my Puig Windscreen, handlebar risers, and my new helmet.
I am sorry to report but the Puig windscreen is making a brrrrrrr noise at around 60 mph
the handlebar risers are perfect at 1"
my new KBC Force Blade helmet, I LOVE IT, its quiet and it has great side vision.
Oh, the new battery I got from Advance Auto Parts doesn't fit, its too wide, lucky for me, I never added the acid yet so i'm good to take it back, I was smart enough and you guys suggested I dry fit it first before I add the acid.
Checked my tire pressure, the front tire was 10psi and the rear was 15.
I was a little confused reading the recommended tire pressure so I did 36 psi front and 42 psi rear.
What tire pressure do you guys run?
Experts always told me to run tire pressures on the high side.
Make sure you replace ALL the winter air with fresh spring/summer air as this is commonly overlooked.
36/42 ain't bad but it depends on many things such as the tire, the weight of you and your bike, how fat your passenger's ass is, what type of riding you'll be doing, and road conditions....

what do you mean by replacing "ALL" the air?
the tires were almost flat, so I replaced "MOST" of the air
I am running the Pirelli Dialbo in the rear and the stock Dunlop up front
I ride no passengers and I weigh 165 lbs
todays road conditions were horrible, the road is wet with thick shale in the middle of the roads and potholes,, the angel of death was following me and I almmost lost the bike twice, but when I dropped down 2 gears and peg the throttle I left the angel of death behind, he couldn't catch me
Now come on don`t try the double joke trick, BaartRice is not going to fall for that one, he is not as stupid as you think.
You must change ALL the winter air and change it for spring air.
Winter air has a greater density due to moisture and will form a heavy air layer on the outer surfaces of the tyre while at speed. This causes the tyre to run as though it is slightly out of shape and can cause side slapping, which as you know, it is important to avoid.
I change my winter air at the beginning of every riding season and have never had a problem with side slapping.

The windshield is probably not tightened enough. But be careful and don't overtighten the screws. Try and find some rubber washers - I think you may find them in the hardware/plumbing sections. Also check the fit of your Puig - I know the one I had (and promptly sold) had serious fit irregularities (it had under-cuts & overlaps in several areas).
I'd run the tire pressure at exactly what the owner's manual says: 33F/36R unless you are really heavy. I suppose one could argue that in cold weather, the tires will never reach the hot-tire pressure it does in the summer (higher the temp, higher the pressure), so optimal cold temp pressure, is a good question. I'd like to know if the tire manufacturers recommend slightly higher pressure in the cold.

That's really low. When's the last time you filled it? And when did you last check it? One good example and reminder for people to check the pressure before riding.

I live in an area of the country with mountains and valleys, riding around different elevations, does the air pressure change in ur tires with changes in elevation?
Like if I have 42 psi in my tires at sea level, what would be the psi at 2500 ft?
I check my tire pressure everytime I take my bike for a ride and its always different
I use a high quality 0-60 psi dial pressure guage
I have learned thru the years checking the tire pressure at every ride and keeping the right pressure in the tires will greatly increase the tire tread life.
When I look at other sport bikes the first thing I look at is the rear tire tread and 90% of the time I see the tread worn out in the middle of the tire and the tread like new on the sidewall.
If you would look at the tires on my FZ6 you will see the tire tread is the same in the middle and on the sidewall

... and while your at it, tell him the secret that everyone else uses helium or hydrogen in their tires for a better ride...

Too lazy to open your manual or check the sticker on the swingarm?
