FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
Yeah, I saw a bit of a pic earlier in this thread. I'm thinking with a bent threaded rod I could get away without modding any stock parts (for reversibility). My only concern is have the bent rod flex enough to make shifting feel mushy. The rizoma rearsets use an idler arm to transfer the force between two threaded rods. If a bent rod doesn't work, I'll try to find a suitable idler arm and then get two shorter threaded rods.
Here's the rizoma, for comparison with my idler arm idea:
Anyway, I'm going to see how things will line up when I get the plates, and see what the best shifting method will be, while retaining the rod going through/behind the frame. My driveway still has 4" of ice on it, so I'm not going anywhere soon!
The thing about these Set Back Plates is that they only push the rearsets about 1 5/8" back and about 1 7/16" up. The OEM shift rod is long enough to be used. It doesn't need a longer rod.
Here's a few pics of my set back plates installed. After inspecting every set, some of them have some minor scratches on them. :/ Doesn't affect their form or function. Most of those that do have scratches, they're at least on the backside. Those that have scratches on front side, their marks are barely noticeable once they're mounted. I'll be selling those sets which are cleanest first. So first come, first served. The sets I installed on my bike have a slight purplish tint to them that you can sort of see in the pic. They're the only set that came out that way. A fab buddy said that there may have been some diechem (sp? - sounds like die-chem as in chemical) leftover. I don't mind; they still look great place the pegs right where I want them. And they are the only sets that have that purplish tint.
Basically, I'm selling these as-is. If everybody who has told me they want them actually buys them, I'll sell out of the silver and there will be just a few left over of the black. 2 black sets are already on their way and I'm gonna locally deliver 2 more black sets. wavex, Poutanen, vokal389@FZ6-F, and Hellgate@FZ6-F have agreed to help me figure out the shift rod issue.
You'll need the following hardware to mount them: 4 qty 8mm x 25mm x 1.25 pitch bolts (or the OEM rearset bolts maybe minus the washers, dunno; these mount at the frame), 4 qty 8mm x 30mm x 1.25 pitch bolts for the rearset mounting to the set back plates, and 4 qty 8mm nuts & washers for the back side of the set back plate. Fit is tight and the stabilizer dowel is a little tall in the set back plate. You can fit it w/o grinding it down. I used 8mm x 50mm x 1.25 pitch on the rearset mount and they're a little long but I wanted to see how much clearance you might have. I'd recommend not going any longer than 8mm x 45mm x 1.25 if you have to buy a longer bolt. The lower one is pretty close to the chain.
I don't know for sure. Like said I before, I'm trying to work w/wavex and vokal389@FZ6-F to figure that out. I think you can get it to work without modifying the shift rod. If we're lucky, we'll know before the end of the week. Just need to work out the specifics.
Thanks Oso for stopping by tonight to drop the plates... home delivery is pretty nice sorry I couldn`t invite you in for a beer, but we`ll do that next time.
Oh and amazing ride on that project bike of yours... it definitely felt like a different ride all together... and now, because of you I need:
- at least -1 on the front (if not the whole -1/+2)
- SS brake lines
- definitely need a flatter bar.... your clipons are sick in turns... the bike wanted to turn for me!
Anyway, see you next Sat at the track
Thanks again, will try to mount them tomorrow and let you know if I can figure something out about the shift lever...
So 4 set back plate sets have been sold off and I have mine installed (10 black pairs left, 3 silver pairs left). These people have told me they had an interest at one point or another but have not paid. I'll be email you guys individually to see if you're still interested.

Hey, got my parts in the mail today! Nice pieces!!! I'm going to work on the shifter issue as soon as I can. I've got an idea that should retain the stock linkage location (ie. behind the frame) as long as I can find the right parts.
Thanks for the quick shipping!

Yeah, my driveway is on the north side of the house, so while others have nice clean driveways, mine still has a bunch of ice on it. And my roommates car trailer is in the way, so a little down time won't kill me! lol

What parts are you specifically looking for? Maybe me and wavex can pick them up here in LA and try the plates on his bike.

Well I need two threaded rods, 4 heim joints, and one idler arm. The threaded rod and heim joints won't be a problem at all, I just need to find the right type of idler arm that I can mount to the top of the setback plate. I'm basically trying to replicate the Rizoma shift lingake.
If I can find the right stuff somewhere, I can't imagine it'd be more than $5 for the parts. I'll just have to work out the right spot to drill and tap the hole in the plate, and then the right length threaded rods to mate up to the stock shift linkages on both ends. I can't imagine it'll be hard to find the parts.... I may try 1/4 scale R/C car stuff, or R/C plane stuff.

Reason: insert heim joint pic
